Big Island Retreat

We had a wonderful time at the Big Island Retreat! It is for an adult who is seeking some chill time, tucked away in the trees, birds to watch, and feel the ocean breeze. Recommend for people who are okay without AC (went in March and wind was enough to keep us cool and sleep well), who are okay with quiet hours (I loved them because the sound does carry which makes ocean hearing good), and who want to spend most of their time outside or off exploring. This was perfect for our needs because we had plans to go and explore everyday and then come back just to sleep. We enjoyed not being on a big expensive resort and felt more naturally placed in the area. Our room had a bathroom, a sink, a mini fridge, a coffee pot, and dishes. There is a communal grill and larger fridge with a communal dining table. Washer and dryer available in the main public space. The public space has an open air roofed garden which is quite beautiful. We saw lots of birdies and geckos.

No toilet paper in room. Driveway difficult to drive up and park. Overall a clean decent place

Nice quiet place, with no AC you have to sleep with windows open. Unfortunately not all guests follow their plea for people to be quiet after a certain hour. Our room was comfortable and what I loved was that we were away from the main tourist spot but close enough to enjoy it too.

1. The road into the property was dreadful. 2. To access the restroom/shower, you had to go OUTSIDE to another building; not good, especially in the middle of the night! Apart from that, I have NEVER stayed at a place where the bathroom was in a different building. I wouldn't even think to ask where the restroom is located; it should be a given! 3. The parking was very tedious. 4. Found several bugs in the room. 5. Maybe it was on us, but the tv seemed stuck on one channel - the movie channel. Tried everything but unable to change channels. 6. Inadequate garbage facilities in room. 7. Apart from the portable closet, no place for your clothes. 8. A very small room. In summary, this place was a disaster. I have used ******* many times for reservations and have always been very satisfied; not so this time. We were charged a good rate for this property and were completely disappointed. My overall rating: this place should not even be listed on ******* as available; it is beneath you and us. Call me if you have questions.

The room was okay. The beach is a 5 minute walk from the room. Staff was helpful as a couple of cockroaches ended up in the room. They were immediately on site to help remove them.

We had a great stay, loved the place… very clean and the people are very easy to deal with!!

The room was fantastic!! Deluxe bedding and mattress. Easy to find. Good location

Owner was very accommodating. Room was beautifully appointed. We had a peaceful lanai to have coffee and snacks. We were surprised to find a microwave, small refrigerator, coffee maker and toaster for use during our stay. Walking distance to a snorkeling beach.

Everything about Big Island Retreat was FABULOUS! The staff were very helpful and the best part of all was the beautiful ocean view!
