The day trip was worth it! The Film Park was actually better than we expected, and not as cheeky as some reviews implied. It was quite interesting to see various sets from different epochs, and the time allowed was enough. The tour included a ride with the park's tram, which was a cute feature. Then we had buffet lunch, which allowed us to taste several Chinese dishes that were new to us, and was rated positive by the Chinese tour participants (certainly nothing extravagant, but very decent lunch for around $9USD). Moving on to the water town: The town is very nice (although of course full of tourist shops), but I felt a bit more time was needed in the itinerary to not rush the visit, and that would be my main small complaint from this activity. Overall, it was a nice day trip with interesting sights and good value. William, our English speaking guide, was helpful and attentive, and the transport bus was modern and air-conditioned. In Songjiang, Shanghai, there are also three scenic and less crowded places that are perfect for summer outings. The places I’m talking about are neither Sheshan nor Chenshan Botanical Garden, but the three most historically and culturally significant spots in Songjiang with ties to film and entertainment. So where exactly am I referring to? Don’t rush—I’ll explain in detail. First, the place I want to introduce is Cangcheng Old Street. It was the site of the important granary “Shuici West Warehouse” outside Songjiang’s old city, with over 400 years of history. It’s a key witness to the grain transport history during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The core building on the old street—the Dacang Bridge—is the largest and tallest surviving Ming dynasty stone arch bridge in Songjiang and is a Shanghai municipal cultural relic protection unit. The bridge spans the Cangcheng City River and was once a vital waterway for grain transport boats traveling to and from the granary. Ming dynasty calligrapher Dong Qichang wrote about it, describing the scene under the bridge as “ten thousand grain boats, connecting day and night without pause.” The bridge’s tall arch allowed grain ship masts to pass through, and you can still see wheel ruts and rope wear marks on the bridge surface today.
