Yumotoso Toyokan

This is an old Japanese-style hotel right by Takeo Station, about a 1km walk. It's conveniently located right next to the Takeo Public Onsen, and there are convenience stores and restaurants on the street. The facilities are a bit old but clean, and the service is excellent. There are two onsen baths, one on the 4th floor and one on the 1st, neither of which is very large. The hotel itself doesn't have many rooms, probably fewer than 20, so the onsen is rarely crowded. The highlight is definitely the two meals. The dinner was high quality, comparable to a 500 RMB standard in China, and I, with an average appetite, was completely stuffed. The breakfast also looked great. Overall, it offers good value for money; in Hakone, this would easily be a third more expensive.

The elderly lady who escorted us to our room held an English introduction sheet and looked a bit troubled, wanting to explain things to us. But when she heard we were okay with Japanese, she visibly relaxed, which was absolutely adorable. Room: ★★★★ We had the most basic room type, but the room size was still quite good. Onsen: ★★★ The hotel has two hot springs, located on the 1st and 4th floors respectively. The onsen itself is nice; the water felt very smooth. However, due to its long history, there's no open-air bath, and the bathing area isn't very large. Food: ★★★ We only booked breakfast, which was decent and as expected.

The location is excellent, offering a pure hot spring resort experience. The option of a two-meal package is really great, making it a perfect place to relax and unwind.

Excellent location. Opposite the gatehouse. Nice night view. Satisfactory service. It's a very small town with few cars and people. The owner was very helpful, calling a taxi for us and even reimbursing the fare. The food was also excellent; perhaps because there weren't many customers, they gave us a very large private room. However, the restaurant is quite old; for example, the toilets look like they're from 30 years ago, and the hot spring pool is very small. It's about a 20-minute walk to the famous Takeo Library and the 3,000-year-old tree.
