based on 38 reviewsShanghai Museum of Glass, with "innovation and iteration" as its self-requirement, creates a high-quality visiting experience for audiences, making it a cultural life destination that inspires imagination and aspiration.

The permanent exhibition at Shanghai Museum of Glass underwent a comprehensive upgrade during the 2024 May Day holiday. The upgraded permanent exhibition includes hall 1 "Science, history and technology", hall 2 "Art", hall 3 "The world of glass", and hall 4 "NXT virtual reality lab", offering diverse experiences for visitors of all ages, showcasing the infinite possibilities of glass, and leading a new museum lifestyle.

The Children's Museum of Glass is the first family-friendly cultural destination in Shanghai and even China with glass as its theme and customized for children. It is dedicated to providing a fascinating space for knowledge, culture and artistic interactive experiences for kids aged 4-12. The brand-new Children's Museum of Glass 2.0 is a contemporary art and design museum where curious cool kids (and their parents) can explore and better understand this versatile material. Combining novel creativity, fun designs and the concept of edutainment, a door to an imaginative glass world will open for children. Here, they can freely roam through a wonderful world of their own, where they can not only gain happiness but also be inspired to cultivate an independent spirit of exploration, discovery and creation.

The thermal theater is dedicated to breaking through traditional exhibition and performance models, presenting the inheritance and innovation of glass craftsmanship in a highly dynamic form. The sense of limits in glass, as well as its unpredictable characteristics, will be vividly displayed in various thrilling ways. Unlike traditional hot glass demonstrations in glass museums, the thermal theater breaks conventions by combining advanced glassmaking techniques with artistic theatrical performances, sound, and lighting, showcasing the extraordinary aspects of hot glass craftsmanship to the audience. Currently, Shanghai Museum of Glass has developed two thermal theater performances: "Dream" and "The Wanderer."

The glass maze is inspired by one of the world's oldest games and reimagined into a unique design experience spanning 575 m². This maze fully utilizes the material properties of glass and mirrors, showcasing refraction and reflection in a visual spectacle that creates a surreal, "endless" psychedelic space. The lighting and music design elevate the thrill of the maze game, while the check-in task of finding geometric shapes adds an extra layer of challenge to the exploration. Please stay safe in the maze—remain calm, engaged, and bold in your attempts. By completing the maze challenge, you'll enjoy a full day of surprises and joy!

The DIY craft courses cover ten mainstream glassmaking techniques, where both adults and children can find the joy of hands-on creation. The museum offers glassmaking DIY courses of varying difficulty levels, including lampworking, blowing, fusing, inlaying, painting, mosaic, and beading.

Other visitors' reviews of Shanghai Museum of Glass
Show More ReviewsI noticed there aren't many reviews of the Glass Museum in Korean, so I am leaving this review in the hopes that it will be helpful. I visited with my 7-year-old (8 in Korean age) daughter, and she was very satisfied overall. She was particularly pleased with the children's glass museum viewing corner and the maze area. She enjoyed it because the exhibits were designed to allow for hands-on experiences while completing missions, rather than just viewing the exhibits. I also appreciated that the spaces for children were well-organized. However, it was disappointing that the location is a bit out of the way and the facilities were not as clean as I had expected. Also, since the admission fee is relatively expensive, I recommend considering the price, facilities, and location together when deciding to visit.
