Based on 34,992 reviewsBudapest is known as one of the few spa cities in Europe, with a bathing tradition dating back over two thousand years to the Roman era. The Széchenyi Thermal Bath, located in the city park, is a representative of this tradition. Built and opened in 1913, the pale yellow neo-baroque palace surrounds the outdoor pools, where the steaming water contrasts with the classical facade, creating a highly recognizable landmark in the park. The thermal water here is sourced from deep geothermal wells, with high temperatures and rich in various minerals, making it one of the largest of its kind in Europe.
The bathhouse consists of three outdoor pools and over a dozen indoor pools: the outdoor area features a hot spring sitting pool, an experience pool with a circular whirlpool flow, and a standard swimming pool, while the indoor side houses pools of varying temperatures along with sauna rooms and steam chambers. In the outdoor hot spring pools, it's common to see chess enthusiasts floating boards on the water and playing games while half-submerged in the warm water—a scene that has persisted for years and draws many travelers specifically to witness this classic sight. Even in winter, the outdoor pools remain steamy, with the chilly air outside contrasting the mist rising from the water's surface, making for a uniquely soothing soak in the snow. As night falls, the interplay of lights and steam creates an equally delightful atmosphere for an evening dip.
Swimwear is required for entry. Towels, slippers, and swim caps can be rented on-site, and swim caps are usually required in the pool area. Weekends and daytime tend to be crowded, so those seeking a quieter experience may opt for early morning or evening visits. Subway line 1 has a station right in front of the bathhouse, making it very convenient to reach from downtown.

There were even small safety box (free) beside the pool so u can keep ur handphone after u finish taking photo without returning to the the changing room. Staffs were friendly. We went around 5pm then we can enjoy both blue sky and also the night at pool.
