Sam Nail Ranch

Not much here

This short loop trail goes through a heavily overgrown area. It features the ruins of an old ranch, but the ruins consist of little more than a windmill and a few foundation blocks from the house.

Short hike to an interesting site

There is not much left of this Ranch, but you can easily imagine a family living there. It would be a nice level hike for families with small children.

Unique

This area of the park is unique because it has non native trees, water, and shade. Wildlife is suppose to be abundant here, and I am sure it is in the summer, but in late December we did not see any. ...

Quick shady walk

We stopped at the pullout here and took a quick walk through the Sam Nail Ranch area. We especially liked the shady sections of the trail near an old (but still running) windmill that waters the pecan...

Nice loop to walk

There is an old, working windmill along the path along with lots of birds and colorful cactus. Be sure to pull over and walk this. It's short and a nice walk.
