Nice complex
Payment of fee to the East Golden Hall of the Temple was required. You could see the temple treasures inside. Worth the visit to Tokondo next to the 5-storey Pagoda.
I really enjoyed my visit to Kofuku-ji and am glad I paid the extra fee yen to visit some of the shrines and buildings. This one, the Eastern Golden Hall contains a beautiful Buddha that looks so unto...
I'm no expert, but it seemed to me that this area hasn't been restored and it was finally great to see a temple in somewhat original form. Lovely complex to stroll around in.
I left my luggage at Kintetsu Nara Station and went on foot. It is called Tokindo because it is located in the east of Chukindo, the main hall of Kofukuji Temple. Emperor Shomu erected it in hopes of relieving his aunt's illness, and the Yakushi Nyorai Za statue is the principal image. There are beautiful Buddha statues such as Nikko Moonlight Bodhisattva.
Located in Kofukuji Temple, one of Nara's leading tourist attractions, it is very close to the five-storied pagoda. There are many valuable Buddhist halls such as Yakushi Nyorai statue, Nikko / Moonlight Bodhisattva statue, Shitenno statue, Twelve Gods statue, Imakoji statue, and Manjusri Bodhisattva statue, so if you are interested in Buddhist art, it is a must-see.
