We had a factory tour at Labookellie Tea Factory during our stay in Nuwara Eliya. The tour is free and no prior reservation is required. Each group of visitors will be assigned a guide who will explain the process of tea plucking, withering (takes out the moisture), rolling, fermentation, firing and sorting/grading. At the end of the tour, visitors get to taste the tea for free and order cake slices to go with the tea at the Damro Tea Lounge adjacent to the factory. During our visit, there were tea cakes and chocolate cakes available. The cakes were reasonably priced.
