Walk around the dam area
Walk around the dam during the day and see many different plant species. Visit the dam at night (during June) to see fireflies! This is a nice place to have a picnic with family or friends.
A wonderful place for a picnic, with nice walks around the lake and a great view of the countryside below. Beautiful in Autumn with many seasonal colours. Also a possible base for climbing up to nearb...
I stopped by on the way from Oki Kokubunji to the Shirashima coast. I like the scenery around the dam everywhere, but this was a special scenery with Oki gneiss, which is said to be the oldest stratum in Japan, seen in Nakasu, where the two rivers meet. The only dam on the island. The dam itself is not very distinctive, but if you go around Oki Island, you will usually pass once. You can get a dam card at the management office, so I think you can stop by to commemorate your trip.
You can see the natural rock surface of Oki gneiss, which was made 25,000 years ago. I felt great power. Around the center of the dam? There is a sign and a parking space, but it's a pity that there is no proper explanation around the rock. I think it's an ordinary mountain and passes by. It's a waste.
