Wonderfully quiet place
Close to DC but a world apart. Great hikes (some easy on dirt roads,others narrow,rarely used paths) through varied landscapes. I only wish the old dump site along the otherwise beautiful Mounds Trai...
I often bike from the house to the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary, 7 miles. It's an excellent viewing spot for migratory birds. They have an excellent wildlife center, geared toward students.
Lovely area. Visited on a gorgeous autumn day with my dog. Lots of trails to walk. Very clean. Uncrowded. Great place for families to play & picnic. Looked like kids could run & play to their he...
It was 100* but most of the trail is shaded. Would have spent more time at osprey nest if it wasn't so hot. Nature center person was super nice and knowledgeable! Very patient with small kids!!

Wonderful bike ride

Nature right here in my own backyard to fully enjoy. So peaceful and serene. Nature trails, informative classes, boating and a super staff.
Day trip
