Bad cannon!
It’s literally just a cannon, a racist one at that. I wasn’t expecting when I read the plaque for it to be covered in SLURS!! in 2023! Too expensive anyway
A resident of Retford, John Shadrach Piercy, whose son served in the Crimean War, happened to notice that the Admiralty was selling off some captured artillery from the war to anybody who wanted it. ...
In remembrance of the men who fought and died in the Crimean War, sometimes referred to as the forgotten conflict. There is an information panel nearby which provides an interesting synopsis.
There are a number of these scattered around the country, but they're not normally displayed in so prominent a position as this one. It makes for a quirky landmark, and is worth a quick investigation.

Great piece of history
A true land mark that's been in Retford for donkey's years. If you have to be in Retford at all, then a few minutes with the cannon is well worth it.
