Merapi is one of around 500 volcanoes in Indonesia, at least 129 of which are active volcanoes which are in a volcanic arc spread across the Asia Pacific archipelago which is also known as the “Ring of Fire”.
The most active volcano in Java, about 26 kilometers north of Yogyakarta, is erupting with surprising regularity. The eruption in 1006 destroyed a kingdom on Central Jawab Island and buried one of the seven wonders of the world, the Borobudur Buddha; In a November 1994 outbreak, 69 people died; and in January 2001, a massive surge of lava and thousands of earthquakes prompted Indonesia's Volcano Survey to warn of the volcano's condition. So be sure to ask for advice before climbing the mountain. It will be colder to go up the mountain in the morning to watch the sunrise, remember to wear thick clothes.
This majestic, cone-shaped volcano with a peak at an altitude of 2,911 meters above sea level also determines the lives of past leaders and their kingdoms.
With all the charm that is in it, it seems to bewitch everyone to come to visit this province which is directly adjacent to Central Java. One of the favorite tours that attract tourists is Mount Merapi. This tourist spot is perfect for those of you who have an adventurous spirit.
A wonderful and interesting journey! At one o'clock in the evening, from the village (new selo) to the kuncap of merapi, it started with woods and mudstone roads, and then the small gravel road in the fourth section followed by direct climbing the mountain wall! The process was particularly hard, a total of four kilometers, but when you arrive at kuncap to see the sunrise, this trip is worth it!
