Nice, but a long way from Tokyo
We wanted to see a mass of plum blossoms and this seemed like a good bet, but it took us 2 1/2 hours to get there (from Higashi Nakano) by car (apparently 3 by train), and by then the sun had unfortun...
This garden is famous for plum during February and early March, when its in season.you can take city bus from Yugawara JR station or by car. very easy access. There are many different shades of pink...
If you stay at the inn in Yugawara, you can get an admission ticket for Umebayashi (usually 200 yen), so I think it's better to go after checking out. Depending on the inn, you may give you an admission ticket even before check-in, so you should check it out. As of March 9, 2022, the plum grove was in full bloom for seven minutes, but it's in full bloom this weekend. There are also shops in the plum grove where you can enjoy light meals. The bus leaves every 30 minutes from Yugawara Station.
It was a cold time at the end of the year, but I found red plums in the plum grove. The quiet plum garden is lonely, but the weather was nice so I was able to spend a wonderful walk time.
I got an admission ticket, so I visited for the first time in several years. There were few people coming on weekdays, and the plums at the bottom were about to end. Therefore, when I went up the mountain road this time, the plums at the top were just in full bloom. The amazake (non alcohol) I drank at the store was very delicious, probably because the climbing and downing became a good exercise.
