The monument was opened in 2002 in honor of the 850th anniversary of the city. Dedicated to Prince Yuri Dolgoruk, the city's native. Architect I. Chernoglesov.

The monument from the pink granite to the founder of the city can be seen in front of the Kremlin's fortress shaft. It was installed in the celebration of the city's 850th anniversary in 2002.
