The national geopark has a well-deserved reputation, and the discovery of paleontological fossils verifies the historical changes of this park.
[Maotian Mountain National Park] is located near Maotian Mountain in Chengjiang County, Yunnan, 8 kilometers away from Chengjiang County and about 60 kilometers away from Kunming. On July 1, 1984, Chinese scholar Hou Xianguang first discovered the intact early Cambrian paleontological fossils here. Through the textual research and research of paleontologists, the magnificent landscape of marine life and the primitive characteristics of living animals were vividly reproduced 530 million years ago, providing for the study of the origin, evolution, and ecology of life on the early earth lasting 53.7 million years. Based on precious evidence, the research and discovery of Chengjiang Paleobiota not only provided scientific facts for the non-linear and sudden evolution of life in the Cambrian, but also created a major challenge to Darwin's theory of gradual evolution. The Chengjiang Paleontological Group covers 16 categories and more than 200 species fossils (as of 2012). On July 1, 2012, the Chengjiang Fossil Site was officially included in the "World Heritage List."
More than 30 fossil sites were discovered in Chengjiang, and more than 30,000 fossils were collected. It is scientifically identified that there are 40 categories and more than 100 species of paleontological fossils, covering all categories of modern organisms. It has also been discovered that many species have existed in large numbers in the past and are now extinct. The new species of animals have exceeded the existing animal classification system and can only be named after the place names of excavations, such as Fuxianhu insect, Maotianshan insect, Yunnan insect, Kunming insect, and straddle horse insect, etc., appearing the oldest on earth The spine animal-Haikou fish, whose structure and function are more complex than those of Yunnan insects, is the most exotic species, the best buried preservation, the most exquisite appearance, and the best quality among the fossil animals found in the world. It is a rare and precious animal. fossil.
The view is good. The park is famous because I have seen Chengjiang paleontology and archaeology documentary on TV several times, so I came here without explanation. I can only watch the excitement and feel a little disappointed. More suitable for researchers to come, rather than travel enthusiasts. The protection of fossils needs to be strengthened
