Every Saturday afternoon, Wualai Road at the south gate of Chiang Mai Old City is closed to traffic for the Saturday Market. All along the road are fruit and snack vendors, filling the lanes and plaza to the brim with their booths. The merchandise for sale is very artistic, primarily consisting of local Chiang Mai handicrafts such as ethnic clothing, self-made jewelry, hand-painted lacquerware, embroidered handbags, wooden products and much more. The area is also full of street performers.
