It usually takes 3-4 days to complete. A Solo Autumn in England: A Drive in the Peak District, Encountering Lord of the Rings-like Gorges and Mam Tor Our first stop was Castleton, where we explored Speedwell Cavern with a boat trip on the mysterious underground canals, followed by a hot lunch at a traditional village pub. In the afternoon, we drove down the steep and narrow Winnats Pass into the valley below. The awe-inspiring feeling of being surrounded by massive limestone formations truly felt like stepping into a movie scene! Finally, we parked at Mam Nick car park and, braving light rain and strong winds, hiked 20 minutes to reach Mam Tor. The view from the summit was spectacular. Although the wind was strong, the endless green ridgelines made it all worthwhile. 📌 Driving Tips: 1. Signal strength is poor in the Peak District; remember to download offline maps beforehand. 2. Winnats Pass is a no-stopping zone; do not park on the roadside to take photos. 3. The roads are slippery in the rain; wear a waterproof jacket and non-slip shoes, and remember to turn on your headlights! Right, so I finally traded the grey Manchester drizzle for some proper sun. Best decision ever. Did a massive 14-day loop through Kenya and Tanzania and honestly, my brain is still trying to process it all. Mostly went because I wanted to see Kilimanjaro. Spoiler: it’s huge. Even from the Kenyan side in Amboseli, with all the elephants wandering past, it felt a bit unreal. Much bigger than the Peak District, let's put it that way. We did the whole Serengeti and Maasai Mara thing. Animals everywhere. Literal dust storms of wildebeest. I just brought my battered old hiking boots that have seen way too many muddy Sunday walks, and they did the job perfectly. No fancy brand-new safari gear needed. Just bring lots of layers because the mornings are freezing. Seriously, pack a proper jacket. The Ngorongoro crater was wild too. Like a massive volcanic bowl of wildlife. Also, picked up some local black tea there which is basically keeping me alive at my marketing desk right now. If you're thinking about doing the multi-country route, definitely sort your visas a couple of months early. It’s a bit of a faff but so worth it. Right, back to spreadsheets I guess.
