Fatih Mosque

Fatih Mosque, FatihCamii in Turkish, meaning "Mosque of the Conqueror", is an Ottoman mosque located in the Fatih district of Istanbul, Turkey. It is one of the larger Turkish-Islamic buildings in Istanbul and represents an important stage in the development of Turkish architecture. Fazih Mosque is a large-scale religious and social complex. Ordered by the "Conqueror" Mehmed II, the Church of the Holy Apostles of the Byzantine Empire was demolished (it served as the seat of the Patriarch of Constantinople after Constantinople was captured by the Turks in 1453), in 1463-1470 Year to start construction. The designer is architect Atik Sinan. Fazih Mosque is a major project in the architectural history of the Ottoman Empire. It became the largest mosque in the capital of Turkey at that time, second only to the Sophia Mosque (reconstructed from the Hagia Sophia).
