Chikamatsu Monzaemon’s grave
Before I went there, I hadn’t expected much. But there were actually many interesting things to see in this temple. The main attraction is the grave of Chikamatsu Monzaemon, a famous scenario writer o...
It is a family temple of the Ogasawara family, which was the former Karatsu feudal lord, and boasts a fairly large site. There are also multiple gardens. It seems to be a temple related to Chikamatsu Monzaemon, who is famous as a joruri artist, and there was also a graveyard. It's a bit of a walk from the central area, but I think it's worth seeing enough.
10 minutes walk from Karatsu station. A temple of the Rinzai sect Nanzenji school built in 1302. The principal image is Shakamuni Buddha. The mountain gate is a relocation of the gate of Nagoya Castle, which Hideyoshi Toyotomi built in Karatsu. The main hall is wooden tiled and the garden in front of it is in good condition. There is a garden named "Maizuruen" in the back of the precincts, but I could only peek from the side of the main hall, so I couldn't understand it well. There is a theory that Monzaemon Chikamatsu, the author of Joruri, named it from the temple where he was acquired. Chikamatsumonzaemon ... in the precincts
Since it was close to the hotel I stayed at, I enjoyed a walk with the nearby temples and shrines. It was a big temple around here, and the building was magnificent. There were no tourists and it was quiet because of the daytime on weekdays.
