    Character from legend.

Shodo Shonin is known for the legend of the Shinkyo bridge, when he and 10 disciples were unable to cross the river and the river God Jinja-Daio threw them a bridge of two snakes and sedge across.

    Original Text

Shodo Shonin, a monk from the Nara period to the early Heian period when Mt. Nikko opened. There was the statue at the entrance of Rinnoji Temple. Speaking of Nikko, Nikko Toshogu, Ieyasu Tokugawa, Tenkai Daisojo, etc. are famous, but Shodo Shonin is the first great person to open a sacred place here.

We will be watched over by the upper man of Nikko Kaisan.

    Original Text

It is a statue of Shodo Shonin of Nikko Kaisan standing at the entrance of the precincts of Rinnoji Temple. It seems that he is watching over the worshipers in a powerful figure. It is also the entrance to the parking lot, so it feels like you are surrounded by cars and sightseeing buses. Autumn leaves that turned bright red were planted around the area.
