We usually stay at Prem Inn for our parkrun tourism but as this hotel was opposite a ‘Purple Palace’ we checked the price and found it was significantly cheaper. We were very pleased to find that our room was immaculately clean. Slightly smaller than a typical purple room but very similar in appearance and completely adequate for our 1 night stay. The man on reception was extremely welcoming, check in was quick and simple. There’s a breakfast service (we didn’t use it) and a small ‘bottle bar’ at reception for drinks (again we didn’t use). The Harvester restaurant / pub is just a short walk away and is what you’d expect of that chain and the petrol station next door has an Asda Express shop and a Greggs. All in all we were very pleased and will certainly check if there’s a Best Western next time we’re going away as a cheaper alternative to the purple lot. I would absolutely recommend this hotel.
The Parkway is one of those hotels which, through the years, has hosted a few of our family gatherings from my wedding in 2009 and daughters 30th birthday celebrations in 2020.
We were staying as our new bathroom is being installed and we needed somewhere local to stay.
Plenty of free parking and easy check in. The grounds are lovely.
Note the check out times are 11am on the weekend and 10am in the week - I personally feel that's a bit early. You can have a later check out until 1pm for £25.
The breakfast that was included in the room rate was lovely, plenty of choice, hot breakfast items such as bacon, sausage, mushrooms, beans, black pudding, scrambled eggs and fried eggs. You can order off a smaller menu, items such as poached eggs on toast, eggs benedics etc. Toast is available, limited selection of pastries, cereals, ham, cheese and yoghurt. The orange juice was a bit of a let down, there was apple juice and water available too.
We ate in the lounge area three nights good choice on other which was delicious. Jacket potatoes, chicken tikka mansala and club sandwich. The alcoholic drinks though seemed really expensive. We did not use Ravellos but there is a good carvery on a Sunday.
We used the spa area, again very good. Lovely warm pool with steps for those less mobile (like me). Good jacuzzi and great seating area to relax.
Our room was very comfortable, bed was great, small seating area. The bathroom only had a shower over the bath which I struggled with but my partner was ok with. The extractor fan was very loud.
As I said at the start, we have lots of positive experiences at this hotel but it is looking a bit tired which is a shame. It seems well supported by the locals as the lounge was always full with people having food off the bar menu.
With just a bit more investment it can be fabulous again.
We would stay again. All the staff were friendly.
