Nov 19, 2023 (UTC+0)ENDED
Kendal
Join the BMC, Mountain Training, and Komoot for an exciting free walk at the renowned Kendal Mountain Festival. This captivating hike will take you on a delightful circular route, mainly off-road, allowing you to immerse yourself in the stunning surroundings of Cunswick Scar and the locally acclaimed viewpoint known as 'The Mushroom'. With a distance of approximately 9km, this walk is perfect for those who prefer a leisurely start on a Sunday.
During the walk, you'll have the opportunity to learn more about the BMC's incredible work and discover the various qualification pathways available with Mountain Training. Expert guides Cress and Nic will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
The journey begins with a gradual ascent, crossing the picturesque Kendal golf course and a bridge over the bypass. As you traverse the open fell, you'll be greeted by breathtaking views from Cunswick Scar (please keep dogs on a lead here as livestock often graze in the area). After a slight descent and another ascent, you'll reach Scout Scar, where you can soak in the stunning vistas of Morecambe and the Langdales. From the iconic 'Mushroom', you'll have several path options before embarking on a descent that will lead you back to the heart of Kendal's town center.
To ensure you're fully prepared for the hike, please bring appropriate gear for all weather conditions, including a raincoat, layers, hiking boots, water bottle, and snacks. Since the walk takes place over lunchtime, it's advisable to bring a packed lunch. If you prefer to use hiking poles, feel free to bring them along. Additional items such as a hat, gloves, sun cream, and sunglasses may also enhance your comfort.
Dogs are welcome on this walk, but please remember to bring their lead and necessary items. A medical form is required for registration, and it can be downloaded and completed in advance or filled out on the day of the event. Please email the completed form to cressida.allwood@thebmc.co.uk before November 12th. If the event is fully booked, you can still submit the medical form to be added to the waiting list.
Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to explore the enchanting landscapes of Kendal. Join us at the Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal, where the walk will commence and conclude. Please note that sign-ups on the day may be available if space permits, as we maintain a 1 leader to 12 walkers ratio. Cress will have printed forms for completion and submission by 11 am if required.
