With an antenna implanted in his skull, Harbisson has expanded his perception to include visible and invisible colors, such as infrareds and ultraviolets, through audible vibrations. He can even receive colors from space, images, videos, music, and phone calls directly into his head via an internet connection. Harbisson identifies himself as a cyborg, considering himself part-human and part-technology. His thought-provoking artwork explores themes of identity, human perception, the relationship between sight and sound, and the use of new sensory inputs. In addition to his artistic pursuits, Harbisson co-founded the Cyborg Foundation and the Transpecies Society, organizations that advocate for cyborg rights and the freedom of self-design. This captivating talk will demonstrate that actively participating in our own biological evolution is no longer a mere theory – it is an option. By merging ourselves with technology, we can become the architects of our own bodies and perceptions, enhancing our survival capabilities both on Earth and in outer space. Join the Mend Your Clothes workshop at Kirkstall Forge in Leeds and embrace the art of visible mending. This session offers a unique opportunity to learn mending techniques that not only celebrate but also highlight the repair process. Bring your clothes in need of repair or experiment with a variety of samples using our fabrics. The workshop will take place at Butlers, Kirkstall Forge, conveniently located near a train station.
