Girls on Hills Ltd is the exclusive provider for Skyline Scotland and they are offering this unique opportunity to explore and prepare for the new Salomon Buttermere Skyline™ race. This race has taken the place of the Ring of Steall Skyrace for the Golden Trails National Series UK and Netherlands in 2024. The Salomon Buttermere Skyline™ is a challenging mountain loop in the Buttermere fells of the Lake District. Participants will have the chance to conquer iconic peaks like Red Pike, High Stile, Hay Stacks, Dale Head, and Robinson while taking in stunning views of the Lakeland landscape. Led by local mountain leader and running guide, Heather Ohly, the guided recce is open to both men and women. The group ratio will be a maximum of 1:6 to ensure a safe and high-quality experience. It is important to have a high level of hill fitness to complete the day, but a race entry is not necessary. The recce will allow participants to familiarize themselves with the race route and make informed decisions about pacing and strategy on race day. The day will start at Honister Pass, checkpoint 5, with a climb up Dale Head and continue anti-clockwise to Buttermere Village, checkpoint 8. The second half of the day will traverse the southern skyline, ending with a run down from Haystacks back to Honister Pass. The recce is not a race, but rather a chance to enjoy a comfortable pace and interact with fellow participants and the guide. Participants should come prepared with appropriate clothing, equipment, and food for a challenging day in the hills. The group leader may make route adjustments based on conditions or group fitness. Accommodation and food are not included in the recce. A minimum of 3 participants is required for the event to proceed. In the event of cancellation, all bookings will be refunded. Join the Introduction to Skyrunning course in the stunning Lake District. This course is specifically designed for trail and fell runners who want to explore more technical terrain. Led by female guides, Girls on Hills provides a safe and supportive environment for women to try their hand at skyrunning. The Lake District is home to a growing number of technical mountain races, some of which are part of the UK Skyrunning Calendar. Girls on Hills has the expertise to introduce you to this extreme running discipline. This introductory course is suitable for those who can comfortably run 10km on trail or have a reasonable level of hillwalking fitness. Don't worry about your pace or physical strength – we will take a relaxed and sociable approach, with plenty of stops for photos, snacks, and getting to know each other. Explore the beautiful Lake District with like-minded ladies and challenge yourself on the edges and ridges. Our local running guides are Summer Mountain Leader qualified and experienced in skyraces and ultra-distance events. On Day 1, you will focus on mountain running skills, technique, and safety, along with training and nutrition advice. Day 2 will take you into more challenging terrain, including part of a skyrace route. Our experienced guides will provide kit-check, navigation, and route-planning, allowing you to fully focus on your running. Please note that the exact route plans will be confirmed closer to the event, as they depend on weather conditions. We will provide all the necessary information on what to wear and bring with you in our briefing email. Girls on Hills offers a 'no-frills' experience, so you have the flexibility to choose your own food and accommodation. Lift-sharing options will be available to reduce traffic and parking congestion. Join the Ullswater Adventure from July 5th to July 7th in the picturesque city of Glenridding. Immerse yourself in a weekend of exhilarating cross country swimming in and around the stunning Ullswater. This event offers the perfect opportunity for strong and confident front crawl swimmers who are comfortable in open water. Each day, participants will swim approximately 2-4km, ensuring a challenging and rewarding experience. Located at the wonderful Almond Lodge, just past the YHA on the track to Helvellyn, you will enjoy superb accommodation in a luxury bunkhouse. With 24 cozy bunk beds, warm showers, and a living room featuring a log burner, you will feel right at home. The bunkhouse also boasts a well-equipped kitchen and dining room, allowing for comfortable self-catering throughout the weekend. The best part is, once you arrive, you won't need your car for the entire weekend. It's all about walking shoes, wetsuits, and swimming costumes. The adventure begins on Friday afternoon, with check-in available from 4pm. On Saturday, swimmers will embark on a thrilling swim across Ullswater from Glenridding to Silver Bay, followed by a walk to Sandwick bay and a refreshing swim. The day concludes with a visit to Howtown for the Steamer Ferry back to Glenridding. Sunday offers two options: a hike behind the lodge to the beautiful Glencoyne valley and another lake crossing via Norfolk Island, or a scenic ascent of Helvellyn for a dip in Red Tarn. The event concludes with lunchtime, allowing for travel or an optional extra night's stay at the lodge. Included in the Ullswater Adventure package are safety provisions for the swims, accommodation (with the option to stay an extra night), the ferry, and basic breakfast and pack lunch supplies. Additionally, logs for the fire and a round or two at the local pub are provided. Participants are responsible for their own food and drink, with the kitchen at Almond Lodge offering great facilities to accommodate various dietary requirements.
