Telford started life as Dawley New Town. This walk explores one of the less visited original towns of the area and the regeneration it inspired. From Coalbrookdale, we follow the line of the railway to reach Dawley Pools and Little Dawley. We then loop up through Langleyfield before reaching the High Street which we follow to reach Dawley town park. We head towards Pool Hill, Doseley and Little Dawley, before dropping back to Coalbrookdale through Lightmoor. Grade of Walk: Easy/Moderate Pace: Leisurely Terrain: Mixed - Quiet roads, gravel tracks, woodland, field paths some sections may be muddy! Steps and Stiles: Steps up and down, 4 stiles to cross and re-cross railway track Dog Friendly: NO Walk Leader: Jane Warman Specific Walk Information General Information for Walkers All walks take place within the Ironbridge Gorge which will naturally include uphill and downhill sections. Please come prepared for the walk, with water, drinks, snacks and lunch as appropriate as it is not possible to purchase items on route. Good walking boots/shoes are essential and be prepared for wet or sunny weather- possibly both in the same day! Children ( Under 18’s ) are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult with parental responsibility and be capable of the distance, pace and duration of the walk. Please allow plenty of time to reach your event, parking can be tricky in the gorge! It is possible to reach Ironbridge via public transport but there are limited services. Medals are available for anyone completing 25 or 50 miles over the challenge weekends and will be presented on Sunday 29th September at The All Nations Inn Madeley at 16.30 p.m.

The Iron Bridge is the first iron bridge on the River Severn. Due to the limited metallurgical technology at the time, the entire bridge was made of gray cast iron. There was no steelmaking technology at the time, and gray cast iron was relatively brittle, so now the bridge is only used for viewing. At present, vehicles are prohibited from passing on the bridge, but pedestrians can pass through, which is worth a visit.
