Details

Join us for the celebration of Folkestone's Forgotten Theatre, as we shine a light on one of Kent's most important women in the theatre industry, who has remained unknown until now. Dr Jean Baker, a former journalist and author of the groundbreaking book "Sarah Baker and her Kentish Theatres, 1737-1816: Challenging the Status Quo," will present an illustrated talk that unveils the extraordinary story of Sarah Baker. Uncovering this remarkable woman's legacy was no easy feat, but thanks to the discovery of an announcement within the depths of the Folkestone Library's archives, her story can finally be told. Dr Baker's talk will delve into the history of Sarah Baker's Bayle theatre, as well as the four other grand theatres she built in Kent during the late eighteenth century. This is a unique opportunity to learn about a hidden gem of Kent's theatre scene and the significant contributions made by this unsung heroine. The event will take place at The Green Room at The Grand, located at The Leas, Folkestone, CT20 2XL, on February 15, 2024. Tickets are priced at £6.13 and can be purchased in advance. Mark your calendars and join us for this captivating exploration of Folkestone's Forgotten Theatre.
