Details

Join the book launch event of Julia Phillips' first monograph, "Energy Exchange", at the Graham Foundation in Chicago. The event will feature a conversation between the artist and writer Nana Adusei-Poku, as well as performances by artists Tina Wang and Eli Greene. After the event, there will be a reception and copies of "Energy Exchange" will be available for purchase at the Graham Foundation bookshop. Phillips' sculptures are inspired by tools and functional objects, serving as metaphors for social and psychological experiences. These metaphors explore power relations between individuals and institutions. Phillips, a Hamburg-born artist, currently lives and works in Chicago and Berlin. She has exhibited her work at prestigious institutions such as MoMA PS1 in New York, Kunstverein Braunschweig, Berlin Biennial, New Museum Triennial, and La Biennale di Venezia. Her artwork is held in esteemed public collections including the Art Institute of Chicago, MoMA, and Moderna Museet. Phillips recently completed a public art commission called "Observer, Observed" for the High Line in New York. Her work will also be featured in the upcoming Whitney Biennial in 2024. Don't miss this opportunity to engage with Phillips' thought-provoking art at the Graham Foundation. Please note that the event will take place in the ballroom on the third floor of the Madlener House, which is only accessible by stairs. The first-floor galleries and bookshop can be accessed via an outdoor lift. For any inquiries or to make arrangements, please contact the Graham Foundation at 312.787.4071 or info@grahamfoundation.org.
