Join the PMRCAA artists in residence for a captivating evening at the Open Studio event where they will share insights into their artistic practices and the exceptional works they have created during their stay at the ranch. This is the final Open Studio of the 2023 PMRCAA residency season, so it's a unique opportunity not to be missed. Immerse yourself in the world of these talented artists as they present their remarkable achievements at Pine Meadow Ranch's new Classroom on November 9th, starting at 4pm. The event is open to the public and completely free, but space is limited to 30 attendees, so registration is required. Gain valuable knowledge about the practices of the five residents: journalist and podcast producer Ashley Ahearn, collaborating artist and illustrator Catie Michel, fiber artist Flora Carlile-Kovacs, and hydroponic garden designers Kai Misner and Maddie Corbin. Each artist brings their own distinctive perspective and expertise, resulting in a diverse range of creative endeavors. Ashley Ahearn, a renowned NPR reporter, and podcast producer, resides in the beautiful sagebrush country of Washington state. Catie Michel, an award-winning visual artist and photographer with a background in field research, partnered with Ashley at Pine Meadow Ranch to create the captivating children's book, The Little Black Mustang. Flora Carlile-Kovacs is a passionate textile artist who specializes in the ancient technique of felting. She combines wool and silk fibers and fabrics with water and soap to create durable and intricate masterpieces. Flora aims to bridge the gap between fine craft and art, and her mission is to elevate the status of felt in the art world. Kai Misner, Leader of Controlled Environment Agriculture Technology at Planted Detroit, and Madelaine Corbin, a multidisciplinary artist, have collaborated to conceptualize innovative hydroponic systems. Their vision goes beyond mere food production, aiming to create high-tech farms that are also spaces of enjoyment and wonder. Join us at this Open Studio event and be inspired by the talents and achievements of these extraordinary artists.
