Join Caroline Wiygul, an Edinburgh-based poet originally from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, as she presents Poetry of Place: A Workshop on Climate Grief and Our Changing Homes. This workshop, taking place on November 17, 2023, at the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh, is the second in a series that explores our deep connection to our surroundings and how it can help us navigate the complex emotions associated with climate change. No prior experience is required to participate in this workshop, making it accessible to writers of all levels and in any language. Through a series of prompts and activities, participants will have the opportunity to draft poetry individually and collaboratively, focusing on the places they love, their memories of them, and their concerns and hopes for the future. While basic writing supplies will be provided, participants are encouraged to bring their own notebooks or computers and, if they wish, a favorite poem about nature, landscapes, or home. The workshop will center on ecopoetic themes, with a particular emphasis on the concept of home and refuge. Caroline Wiygul's work centers on the transition from girlhood to adulthood in the face of climate change, drawing on her own experiences growing up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Her poetry has been published in Outcrop Poetry and Little Living Room, and she holds a master's degree in policy and design for urban greenspace.
