How do I describe this hotel? In one word: amazing. It was my first time experiencing a mixed-gender bath from over a century ago. I was truly impressed! The elderly gentlemen were just casually strolling around without a care in the world. Families, you absolutely must try the mixed-gender outdoor hot spring bath. It's located in the old wing of the hotel, a bit of a walk from the new wing, but once you're in the hotel, just grab a map and you'll find it. You can also take the opportunity to peek into the rooms and dining hall of this century-old ryokan. As for the room, it goes without saying that upon entering, you're greeted with a flood of green, which was quite a pleasant surprise. The only minor point is that the Hozawa River was a bit murky. I drove upstream along the river, and soon lost cell service, so it is quite remote, but definitely worth a visit. The two meals were decent, nothing spectacular but perfectly acceptable.
Highly recommended
Quicke check in, check out
Public hot springs bathhouse is a very big plus.
This one is real hot springs water not just a big hot bathtub.
Good location everything is in walking distance
Comfortable stay
Although the building is old, they've made various efforts to make it a pleasant stay, such as delicious breakfast and dinner, late-night snacks, a choice of yukata (Japanese-style robes), and coffee service. I'm glad I was able to sleep so soundly.
The hotel is located deeper in the mountains than I expected. From Morioka, I took a bus at 7:30 PM, and after about an hour and a half, most people had gotten off within 20 minutes, leaving me on a secluded road with almost no lights. Eating out at night would be nearly impossible.
The check-in staff introduced the hotel attentively and cleaned the room attentively. The ski rental staff are very patient.
But the quality of the food in the restaurant is average, and all the shrimps in the seafood are rotten. And some of the waiters are not polite to the guests.

A very cute cabin in the woods, about 3-5 minutes drive from the ski resort. If you drive, I recommend this hotel. It may not be very convenient if you don't have a car.
The hotel has 2 private hot springs that can be reserved, so you can go there when no one is using them. It is a very special experience to soak in the hot springs in the snow.
Guide to the room and explanation were good.
I booked a room on the second floor with a terrace, but I was sorry that there were a lot of insects and I couldn't use the terrace. When checking out, you will carry your suitcase yourself (from the 2nd floor to the 1st floor by stairs), so it is easier for travelers who stay consecutive nights or travel around to choose a room on the 1st floor.
It was good to use a lot of ingredients for the dishes, but overall it was strong and heavy until the last dessert. You should think about balance a little more.
Approximately 300 liters per minute of natural hot spring water flows directly from our private source—without added water, heating, filtration, or recirculation.
Enjoy skin-smoothing “beauty bath” waters and seasonal cuisine showcasing the finest ingredients from Iwate, all while relaxing in tranquil guest rooms nestled in the quiet surroundings of Shizukuishi.
We had a pleasant stay in general. However, room ceaning service needs to be improved. Our group of people have a few bad experiences.
1) after returning to room after the day, there was a used mask left in the bathroom. There’s also a day without providing onsen towels and we had to bring over the mid size ones
2) the door of my friend’s room remained open after the cleaning service (a 3M sticker with なすし2 sticked on wall). Glad there’s no missing items
3) another room, there was blood and urine stint left on the toilet cover!
I hope the hotel can take it seriously as it indeed ruins the brand of IHG and bad customer experience.
The main reason for staying at the Hongyeguan Hotel was its convenient location for cherry blossom viewing in the north. It's only a little over half an hour's drive to the exhibition center. The hotel includes two meals: a buffet breakfast and dinner. After cherry blossom viewing, guests can enjoy various delicacies such as king crab, soak in the hot springs, and there are even ethnic performances in the evening. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom on the day we checked in, and Hongyeguan was surrounded by them – it was beautiful!

Great
GGuest UserThe location is beautiful and the views from the car park assured us we had chosen well. Check in was helpful and all facilities were fully explained at this time, allowing us to book our dining time.
The room was comfortable and traditional; the view, amazing! With an afternoon of sunshine, time was taken to enjoy the view in a temperature controlled setting. There was a beautiful tea set and tea provided along with some complementary snacks and water. The toiletries provided were lovely and I shall certainly be looking to purchase these for my home.
Dinner was a Chinese style buffet, with an excellent selection of dishes. Barbecues for the table and delicious sashimi and hand prepared sushi. Soups, stews, salad and more! To follow was an assortment of cakes and ice creams. Staff were very helpful and polite and the food was filling and delicious. We then retired to the hotel bar where we were again greeted by a lovely member of staff.
Upon return to our room, futons had been prepared and the room made ready for sleep. These were surprisingly comfortable.
Breakfast was also delicious with a huge array of dishes to choose from. Check out was simple and staff were helpful and polite.
I will definitely be returning!

NNS MkmmThe service is outstanding since my first step into the hotel. The room is big like i can run around. Breakfast is great. Plenty of good food served as japanese set. Onsen is really comfortable. I went there in summer that there were not many tourists. So sometime, there was only me in the onsen. It was very quiet peaceful and relaxing
A mark for those who books for dinner excluded bundle. There are rarely any restaurant around. There is one in front of the street corner (5mins walk) but the opening time and date could not be expected. You can find something to eat from Family mart (20 mins walk).
KKyliesungIt was my first time staying in a Japanese hot spring hotel and I had dinner in my room. There are many kinds of food, the rice at the end is special but I can't eat it anymore, the hot spring has indoor and outdoor. It's big, has a great view and a sauna. There are many styles of shower gel and shampoo to choose from. The breakfast was also great. The room is big and the view outside the window is beautiful. There is also a massage chair to relax your back.
GGuest UserThe hotel nestled in the middle of Iwate and Akita Japan with an amazing sceneries of mountain. The accomodati on is super comfortable with an amazing view of trees and mountains covered in snow. The other highlight of this place is the culinary experience this place got to offer the course dinner and breakfast that uses locally sourced ingredients from both Akita and Iwate prefecture and the presentation of the cuisine that brings out the quality and the stories of the place. Overall an extraordinary experience and worth a trip of its own.
JJovaWe chose to stay at this hotel because we were going to Appi Plateau for skiing. It only takes about half an hour to drive there, which is very convenient.
The hotel is much larger than expected, the staff is very friendly, the most surprising thing is the hot spring, the open-air bath is super comfortable, a lot of skin care products are provided.
Free coffee and soda are provided in the lobby, which is very generous. There are also two free bottles of water in the room refrigerator every day.
The room rate includes one night and two meals. Breakfast is a buffet and dinner is a Japanese kaiseki cuisine, which is very delicious.
GGuest UserHotel by the sea has a nice view and clean and comfortable rooms with a bit of space for suitcases. The breakfast has a good range of food and was tasty. It was a little way from restaurants if you didn’t book in there for dinner, but overall a good experience.
