I think I've actually reviewed this hotel before but I wanted to update. This is our go-to stop on the way to the Oregon Coast. The location is great. A couple of recommendations. Be sure and get a river view room and upgrade to a deluxe room or a suite. You'll be glad you did and it's worth the price difference. You'll get a balcony or a patio and the rooms are slightly larger. The suites are huge. It's worth the extra money. I also wanted to give a shout out to the front desk staff. My husband had hip-replacement surgery (the scheduling was un-expected) and ended up being only few weeks out from his surgery and was still having trouble getting around easily. We almost cancelled out trip but decided to go anyway and wing it. The front desk changed our rooms both times to make life easier for my husband and reduce the amount of walking he would have to do. A big thank you for that!

The facility is nice and clean. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely room with a view of the river. Overall, it could have been a great stay. Unfortunately, a large semi-truck pulled into a small alley between the hotel and the river at midnight. The truck was literally a few feet from guest rooms. The driver got out of his truck and banged on his truck for a couple of hours trying to separate the two trailers. He may as well have been inside the room banging because it really was that loud. He finally finished at 2:00 a.m. I was shocked that the hotel staff didn't put a stop to it. It ruined our night and I'm sure ever guest who stayed on that side of the hotel also suffered. I would stay there again but next time I'll likely march out in my pajamas in the cold and fix it myself because the hotel staff won't. I'm really surprised the staff did not do more to protect its guests. Very disappointing.

Decided to stop here for the night and spend some time on Hood River. Great hotel for the price. Staff were super awesome. The breakfast spread was huge and delicious. Indoor pool and hot tub that we had to ourselves every time. There’s a gas station, Taco Bell and a Dairy Queen in the same parking lot and a grocery store like a block away if you need anything. If we ever decide to do this again we will stay here again. There is one downside though. This is the worst place for soundproof rooms. You can literally hear everything in the rooms next to you and especially all the way up and down the hall. But all the other good stuff outweighs this any day.

I stayed here for a wedding about 20 years ago. This visit found the property much improved while keeping the same vintage flavor. Rooms were clean and comfortable, and the food was exceptional. Staff was helpful and personable. My only comment regarding improvement is that there was not enough staff to adequately serve the dining room, and the wait for food service was a bit slow. Two more servers would have helped that situation. Thank you for a very nice stay.

Stayed here a few weeks ago. Our stay started off rough. When checking in the male working the counter (I think it was the owner) stated our card was declined. Looked at our bank app and it was showing payment had gone through. When we showed him our phone he said that his receipt was showing declined, and that he needed payment if we wanted to stay. We again told him that our app showed the payment had gone through. He stated "my receipt said its declined, its your problem, call your bank". Which we did and of course they told us the payment had gone through just fine. We handed him the phone and he began to argue with the person on the phone. Long story short he had call his bank from the card reader, which also told him that the payment had gone though. There was not much customer service with him and made it out to be our fault. We finally got our room. The next morning we woke up to find that they had double charged us for the room. Went back to the lobby where a women (i believe the spouse) helped us out. We explained what was going on and she was very courteous a apologetic. She was able to refund for the double booking and again apologized multiple times. She should always be working the lobby!! Now to the room. The room is very basic and lacked an iron. It did have a mini fridge and microwave which was nice to have. The bed was on the small side and it was loud! you couldn't move or get out of bed without the bed making noise. It was very annoying. The room lacked decor but it was a good size. The pool and hot tub are in need of renovation. The paint was peeling and it made the pool look dingy and uninviting. We got in the hot tub and we were almost boiled alive! Now I know how lobster feels. The water was just too hot for comfort!. Never had a problem finding parking. The hotel is not too far from town which was nice but it is a walk. The price was fair and cheaper then most places we looked at. It is one of those things that you get what you pay for. We plan on going back next month but we will be spending more to be closer to town. In the end I would stay here again if I was on a budget.

This is a great, central hotel and the staff were absolutely wonderful. The rooms were typical of an old, historic hotel and they were nicely updated given the limitations of buildings built so long ago. That said, our rooms were overlooking the Pietro's Pizza parking lot and the train tracks just one block away. They provided portable A/C units as it was hot and had it going when we arrived. We tried turning the temp down as it showed 77 degrees and it was warm in the room. We left, walked around town a bit, went to dinner and then came back about 9pm and it was still hot at 77 in the room. The A/C just didn't work that well so we had to open the window to try and cool it down. The first train arrived at 1:30 and there isn't even a building between this hotel and the train tracks, so we heard every car, every shreak from the wheels on the tracks as there is a small curve right there and it was a long, long, long train. The second train rolled in about 5am and it wasn't quite as long. Then the garbage truck showed up at the Pietro's parking lot directly below our window at about 6am. The final train showed up at just after 7am. At that point there was no going back to sleep. Would I stay here again? Nope. Maybe only if we could be put on the other side of the hotel but then it's just another place to stay and for that we'd look elsewhere. I'd like to give more stars because it's a lovely place but the experience of rest there was lacking.

My partner and I stayed in the Carriage House, for the weekend, and it was the perfect getaway. The space was so cozy and welcoming. We had a full kitchen (stocked with all the necessary utensils), a fireplace (which was perfect since the weather had been cold), and a separate bedroom (great for when your partner wants to watch TV and you’re ready to call it a night). This is our first getaway since being parents and I can’t express how amazing the stay was, especially during the pandemic. The room was clean, grounds were quiet, and while our room was the furthest from the views - we still had a lovely shot of the river. Downtown Hood River shops and restaurants closed much earlier than we’re used to in Portland but the full kitchen in our room helped us fully unwind and relax. I was able to catch up on all my shows, hangout with my partner like we used to before the baby and just eat all the yummy treats the town had to offer. I definitely recommend this place.

We spent 4 nights in the Garden Suite (mother, son and his wife) and we were instantly seduced by the very nicely decorated and impeccable double room we booked. In fact, this is not like staying in an hotel, it is more like staying in the big comfy House of Michael who will do whatever he can to make you feel at home. He personally call you before check-in to let you know when your room will be available and how you could self check-in. He is attending the breakfast every morning to discuss with his hosts, to provide information and recommandation (very good by the way) of all the activities you can do around. When time permitted breakfast is served outside in the garden and it is a very nice way to start the day, with coffee "à volonté" a huge burrito or a delicious muffin + fruits with or without oatmeal and yogurt. Hot tube is also available to watch the stars with a good beer relaxing after a day of hiking or water rafting or whatever you decided to do during the day. I strongly recommend this place for people who like to be in a charming place with a nice atmosphere rather than a comfortable but impersonal 5 stars hotel. Thank you Michael for your kindness and attention, we are missing the Inn at the Gorge !
