The hotel is just on the outskirts of Ipswich. The staff are very welcoming, and extremely helpful.
The rooms are of a good size and very clean. The housekeeping staff cleaned our room every morning after we had gone out, which was excellent.
The restaurant food is of a very high standard and there is a good choice including vegetarian options.
In the bar area where it is of a relaxed nature, you can order food from the bar menu or the restaurant menu. Either way, nothing is ever too much trouble.
The swimming pool, sauna and steam room are a must. My husband used the gym which was of an average size and then would come down to the pool area for a jacuzzi.
Although they have the spa treatment available, I can't really comment as I didn't use the facility.
If you want a relaxing time or want to visit the seaside, Felixstowe is only a 30minute drive away. There are also many National Trust houses to visit.
This the second time we have been to the Belstead Hotel and I can honestly say we will be visiting it again.

There is no unifying element to this hotel and this inconsistency shows in the previous comments. It is an mix of modern Asian and 90s European styles, reflecting its current and previous owners. Along with touches of luxury, there are dated displays of dried/artificial flowers. I understand the electric organ on one landing has been there for more than 20 years. The staff were friendly, but the bar was understaffed and sometimes unstaffed. The background music and large tv screen did not make it relaxing. If you make a feature of having a piano in the bar, why not have a pianist? The room was clean and comfortable. The spa area, which has a generously-sized and warm pool, showed more inconsistency. On arrival, the changing rooms had piles of used towels dotted around, with used cups littering the poolside area and some odd smells. It had been cleared by next day, which created a much better impression. Overall, don't go with high expectations and they will either be met or exceeded.
