We stayed here for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Dale was very welcoming! The room was spacious and the bed was very comfy! However the bed and floor does creek quite a lot and the walls are thin so we could hear people walking past and in the room next door although it never kept us awake at night as it was only usually in the day. The bathroom was quite small and the sink is on the outside which we thought was odd but it wasn't an issue. There's a TV in the room which was nice for evenings when we didn't have anything planned. The breakfast was included in the price and was really really nice and fresh! There weren't many tables due to coronavirus but there was only one time we had to wait for a table and that was around 10mins. It was really close to the seafront, literally opposite sealife and the amusements and about a 5min walk from pleasure Beach. The only improvement I would suggest is to get door signs to say whether you want the room cleaned or if you're still in, as we were still in when the cleaner came in without knocking, which we didn't expect as this was at 4pm yet we got told the rooms were cleaned between around 11 and 3. Apart from that we had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend!

When we arrived the manager greeted us and he was friendly throughout our stay, even giving me a couple of wine glasses for our room when I asked. The hotel is very old fashioned but I loved this, it has character and the lift certainly needs to be used at least once when you stay, it'll be an experience that won't be around forever. The hotel is very clean and our room was spotless. I personally didn't have any issues with the bed, however my partner struggled and found it uncomfortable. As it was cold outside, the hotel was heated well to the point that our room remained really hot until early hours of the morning (even though we turned the radiators off) which made it a little difficult to sleep. I appreciate it is very difficult to keep everyone happy and the hotel was just trying to keep guests warm during the cold winter weather. We had our window open and the little pigeon outside seemed to enjoyed our company. The staff were so lovely, very friendly, professional and dressed very smartly at breakfast. There was plenty of hot and cold food with piles of toast, butter, jam, marmalade etc you really couldn't complain. We didn't go hungry, it was cooked well and it was really nice. I did notice an earlier review mentioning this hotel has homeless people staying there who are waiting to be rehoused, I don't know if this is true and I didn't ask because personally, it wouldn't have bothered me either way. At the end of the day, you have no idea how people end up in this situation. If it is true, it certainly didn't make any difference to how much I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. St George's Hotel is in an ideal location and I loved my stay there, it was very good value for money.

Where do I start! This place is my favourite! I first chose it because you can’t beat a beautiful old building that is still bursting with life! It’s so clean and well looked after. On my first visit I arrived quite late as I always do with working all over Europe and this was no bother! Victoria was so nice and polite and this only continued every time I have stayed. The rooms are always so clean and tidy and the beds give the best nights sleep! Just when you think it can’t get any better you wake up to the best full English breakfast I have had anywhere! You can tell that all the produce is fresh and butchers meat not booker rubbish like most places. The evening food again is on the money. Never had a bad meal in the many times I have stayed there. Victoria, her husband and all the staff bend over backwards on a daily basis to ensure your stay is the best it possibly can be and to all of you IT WORKS. The young man William who works the hotel and restaurant/bar has to be the politest and well mannered I have ever met. He is an asset to the Andover House and I’m pleased to know that they are very much aware. I recommend that you do not stay anywhere else in Great Yarmouth. I am gutted that I am not working there anymore but hope I get to return. Thank you Victoria and all at the Andover House for providing me with a home away from home.

Found this place when looking for a room for my singing group (3 guys) when a local holiday Park didn't have accommodation for us. Upon arrival we were greated by a friendly Paul who showed us to our room and pointed out the facilities. The facilities are shared which didn't bother us but it's worth mentioning. The rooms are basic but suited us as a place to sleep between gigs. (Bunk beds was novel) tea and coffee in the room was welcomed. Shower and toilet on the middle floor was the better one and the shower is good. Breakfast exceeded our expectations, great variety all round and a great way to start the day. We'll definitely be back if our situation pops up again.

We stayed in the fawlty towers for two nights to extend our holiday slightly and were disgusted to see the state of the place. When we arrived the outside of the building is bright yellow which is extremely off putting, I know this dosent effect the quality but it still dosent look appealing. In all fairness to the place, the location is very good. It is situated a very short walk away from the main promenade which means it is perfect for summer holiday guests. The inside however is not as good. The entrance feels cramped and unwelcoming, the carpets are very dated and the picture frames are caked in dust. The doors to the bedrooms are not of consistent sizes which just looks unprofessional. The doors also feel very unsecure with tatty locks. We had two rooms which both had very dated furniture. In one of the rooms the ceiling fan/lights were not attached correctly so looked as if they were about to fall off! In the double room we had it was located on the top floor which you could hear other guests in the hotel/next door snoring etc which I know the owners can not control but just shows how paper thin the walls are. There was also human mucas left on the bedding and a hair left in the toilet which were not very appealing. The fridge in one of the rooms was completely broken and leaking alot of water which is an accident waiting to happen. Overall it is not a nice place to stay and I would strongly advise against staying here unless you are extremly desperate or have very low standards.

My wife booked for an anniversary treat and spoke to the owners mother to book explaining I was diabetic and would appreciate an unsweetened breakfast cereal and fruit as we has had at our previous three visits to the property under different management. The mother said she would ask about both but as they didnt want waste of the unused cereal and the fruit was only a available in the summer (we went in mid September)to speak to the owner nearer the date we were going. When we arrived we had the unsweetened cereal but no fruit . We asked for decaf coffee and tea bags in our room instead of the regular left but no tea bags came and loose coffee in a ramekin was eventually brought up. We went out for the day on our arrival back into the room the bed hadnt been made up so we reported it by phone to the manager and her reply was there were things on the bed so didnt make up the bed. We had been to this establishment three times before under two different owners the first pair were very accommodating with fresh fruit fresh towels on each days and decaffeinated tea/coffee in our room without having to ask for it. And made the bed. The third time visiting here the owners were two ladies and they didnt make up the bed either as the previous pair told them not to bother which was not true. Anyway going back to breakfast I ordered an omelette on the first morning tbh didnt look very appetising with bacon a greyish colour but ate it i had a full breakfast freshly cooked but not really hot enough got it heated up and returned. Coffee was served in mugs and asked to have hot water brought to the table toast was 1 slice each but could ask for more also not hot enough. On the second morning I asked for vegetarian breakfast but was told she was LOW ON THE Vegi options and would have to check on it tbh it's not very professional being told that these are people in a business to give a good service and we didnt find that with this visit. My wife had poached eggs on toast which was nice and we both had tea . We unfortunately wont be returning as we are so disappointed with our weekend stay .

Some reviews were dubious about the location. We didn't find any issues and it is literally a few hundred metres from the main road from the town centre to sea front. There was no problem parking on the street in the off peak season, I can imagine it may be more difficult in the summer. The room was fine we had 102 which is just inside the main door on the ground floor. If possible I would suggest a room away from the front door as we could hear people coming and going in the night. The bed I found was very firm and the pillows were too deep for me so I personally didn't sleep well but my partner did and if you like a firm bed I am sure it will be fine. The sheets felt very clean and duvet was warm. There are some cooking facilities and tea/coffee. There were no tea towels or anything to wipe cups etc. In my opinion the table and chairs should be next to the window and the sofa near the door so you could watch the TV as it was positioned right next to the bed which seemed odd as it would be awkward watching it from the bed. Shower and toilet were clean, shower was exellent. They give you a code via email to get into the hotel and the room which worked fine. We walked into town for a meal and would recommend Charlie's Tapas which is just round the corner on Regent Rd.

My partner and I stayed with our two sons last week, and we had to admit, it is one of the nicest B&B’s we have ever stayed in! We were able to park with ease outside the hotel, we were greeted by Larry who was very friendly and welcoming, and his two dogs. Must admit, even though there were dogs on the property, there wasn’t a dog hair in sight! The hotel was immaculately clean, the decor was beautiful too. I’ve seen a couple of comments saying the decor could be updated but, personally, I loved it. It was a very homey feeling and we especially loved the wall plaque quotes in the dining room! We stayed in the family room downstairs, this was a relatively new room, and Larry warmed that we may hear him getting up around 7am, but we didn’t hear a thing! We were sound asleep in the most comfortable beds ever! The room was very spacious, accommodating a double bed and bunk beds. We even had complimentary tea, coffee, hot choc and biscuits in the room which we very much appreciated after a long journey. Breakfast was very nice the following day as well, must find out where they got the sausages and bacon from, they were delicious. The kids absolutely loved it too and they’re quite fussy! I can not recommend this B&B enough, it’s a lovely place to stay, and it’s a stones throw from all of the main activities in Great Yarmouth. Larry was amazing during our brief stay. We did see Larrys wife in passing and she seemed lovely too! We will definitely be back again, Thankyou St Anne’s for a wonderful stay. See you again soon!

We travelled as a couple, within a small coach group, and had a really enjoyable stay. The staff couldn't do more to help us and the food was excellent. The hotel was well decorated in all the rooms, bright , cheerful and very clean. The position is central, with the promenade easily accessible, and the shopping centre only a short walk away. The highlight was the delicious breakfasts, I love fish, and was fortunate enough to have freshly cooked fish for breakfast each morning, either smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, smoked haddock and poached eggs or a pair of delicious kippers. My husband is not a fish lover and enjoyed his full English each morning. The evening meals were just as good, with a fish, meat or vegetarian choice each day. Our room overlooked the Britannia Pier. An ideal place for an out of season break. We certainly hope to visit again.

We love this hotel. We discovered it when we stayed in Great Yarmouth back in January after having dinner here. We were staying at another hotel close by that wasn't very nice. Had we not paid upfront,we would have moved to the Furzedown as it was so lovely and welcoming. The room we stayed in was large and had a fab seaview. It had a sofa bed and a double bed, would have preferred a king size bed,the room is definitely big enough for one but that's personal preference and not a criticism . There was enough room for clothes in the wardrobe and drawers but it would be useful to have a couple of hooks on the wall or back of the door to hang our coats on. The room we stayed in was 26,right on the top floor which suited us as it was lovely and quiet but there are lots of stairs up to it and no lift so it's not suitable for less abled people, but no problem for us,well except when we had the huge breakfast that is! We ate in the bar so we could have our dogs with us, it's really cosy and has a real fire. The food is outstanding, they have a great veggie and vegan menu and can adjust some meals to make them suitable. The decor is not modern but we love it,it makes it feel so cosy. Plenty of parking at the back of the hotel. Most of all the staff are bloody lovely and this is the main reason we would go back. I sincerely hope that The Furzedown doesn't suffer too badly during these difficult times as we definitely want to return, if only for the fantastic staff and food .

Stayed here for a few nights at the end of August. Room was lovely and clean as was the Accommodation throughout. Good facilities in the room, I did not find the shower too small as some other have. Chris was welcoming and they had measures in place due to covid 19 - masks when in hallways, hand sanitizers at the door and spraying down surfaces after check in. The room was lovely however on booking.com we had chosen a room with one single and a double, due to me and my friend going away this was ideal, also I was 34 weeks pregnant on this trip so needed a bed to myself really. We queried this with Chris and he said it’s a common mistake with booking.com and nothing could be done. Parking is not available on the property but there is a lot of free spaces just outside the hotel and you can parallel park along the street, it was fine while we were there as it was quite a windy week and not so busy however I can imagine this being a problem when it’s hot and everyone has come down to the beach. Not a complaint, just seen other people mention it. There is no lift at the hotel just stairs, with it being an old Victorian house they are quite steep and tiring after a long day walking around, not usually a problem for me but wearing a mask and being heavily pregnant I did struggle a little bit so wouldn’t advise if you cannot get up stairs so easily. Location is very good, just a 5minute walk and your at the start of Yarmouth ‘strip’ (the first pier opposite the cinema). Well worth a stay if your looking to go!

We booked last minute for a 2 night stay. Lady on check in was friendly, parking outside the hotel was easy and free, and the location was very good. Right on the sea front, although a car park and road between hotel and the actual beach. We got read the rules for COVID and then headed to our room. We booked a king room with a bath and sea view. We walked in to room 25, the smell of smoke was so bad, we opened the windows but this didn’t work. It also looked nothing like the photos. Very dated and in need of a refurb. My partner went to the front desk to ask to swap rooms. The man didn’t ask questions and just showed us another room on the same level. When asked if he wanted to check out the smell of the smoke he said he didn’t... not sure why! We paid a bit more to upgrade to a deluxe king room with a spa bath. This room was much nicer and looked like the photos online. Although we no longer had a sea view, but a view of the strip club! The road was quite noisy but this isn’t the hotels fault. The room on closer look had a few issues. We could hear every single sound from the rooms above, at all times of day / night. The windows were not double glazed, and the radiators were either boiling hot or freezing cold, no in between. The shower took about 5 minutes to heat up each time (no word of a lie!) and the drains were awful. As soon as we flushed the toilet we could smell the drains, and when we had a bath the water came gurgling up in the shower... The room had a fancy light with dimmer switch and nice mirrors, a large tv etc but it just needs more work / detailed finishes / a good thorough clean to be a 4 star On check out we got told we could park there for the day, which was good, and the staff we saw were smiley and friendly but overall, we wouldn’t return here as I’m sure there would be more modern / cleaner places to stay.

Once again Dawn and Ian welcomed Pauline and I to their Splendid Guest House, where we had room 3, as it is has now become Paulines favourite room ( although I still like room 1 ). There has been a new addition to the staff in the shape of June who is Dawn's sister. Since we stayed here last year there has been a lot of redecorating and the breakfast room seems even larger than before. What can we say about the breakfast, except you are totally spoilt for choice and provided you order the morning before, it seems that almost anything can be supplied, although I still stay with the traditional english breakfast plus tea, toast and a glass of fruit juice. ( sets you up for the day ) The rooms are all spotlessly clean, on suite, and contain tea / coffee making facilities,T.V. and alarm clock plus a safe. We have been coming here so long that it seems like a home from home, and will return again soon, this is probably the best guest house that we have stayed at on the East Coast

We were lucky enough to get away for a few nights before the current lockdown and chose this hotel based on its reviews and location for the Norfolk coast. There were no sea view rooms available when we booked but we were assured that should one become available, we'd be told: we were prepared to pay the extra. We weren't told so I guess none did. We had a glimpse of the sea from one of the room's windows though so not too bad. The main thing to say is that the good reviews are justified. There were many things we liked about the hotel: they have done their very best to ensure guests are safe and that they feel safe in the current climate service was very good - staff were friendly and welcoming the room was clean and the bed was excellent. It was also cleaned and restocked each morning we were there. A nice touch to be asked on checking in if we wanted this. breakfasts and food (mainly) were very good it was lovely to have different places to eat, drink and relax. Be aware though that the terrace isn't open to get a drink after mid afternoon - maybe the time of year? You can though use the internal bar lounge. So yes, a lovely hotel. Unfortunately there were a couple of things that spoiled our enjoyment and one which caused us to cancel the extra night we'd booked whilst staying there. Our room had no separate heating control - apparently, many do. We arrived cold and very wet to find the room freezing. When asked about heating, we were told it wasn't due to be switched on until 4pm. Really? Not very welcoming to guests... We didn't sleep well on our first two nights and very badly on our last. The problem in the room was that each morning, we're sure it was sometime before 6am, there was a continual knocking from the pipes, presumably the boiler firing up. OH would have done something about this at home because it was so intrusive. The knocking went on for some time and just prevented us getting back to sleep. The other issue was the shower room. It was very very small with just a small shelf on which to store things. We ended up keeping toiletries on the floor. The actual shower is tiny. I'm normal size but kept banging my arms against its walls whilst trying to wash my hair. OH thought I was unwell the first evening, there were so many thumps. In front of the loo, is the squeakiest most annoying patch of floor you can imagine. There's no avoiding it because of the tiny space. We could also hear all of next door's bathroom visits as I'm sure they could ours, particularly with the floor! Despite the above, we asked about booking an extra night as we liked the hotel and its staff. Unfortunately, around 11.30pm, we were disturbed by constant door banging, calling out and shouting. This went on unbelievably, until 1.30am. Eventually, I'd had enough and went out to the corridor to see what was going on (maybe not the smartest move...), partly because we weren't next door to the rooms involved and so I couldn't un

I stayed here over a weekend in Feb while up for business. Hotel is well situated, on the sea-front, with free parking right outside. I booked a single room with ensuite bathroom. The room is a good size for a single and very clean! The bed was a single, but very comfortable. Good shower. The main issue I had with the room was the noise(s). There was a rapid tapping noise that occurred from time to time - I think it was the heating. A louder banging, that I think was a door - an open window somewhere? Worst was I think a noisy? family were staying somewhere nearby (above?). Can't tell whether the walls are paper thin, or the family were being particularly noisy!

We picked this place to stay as my boyfriend and his mum have been coming to great yarmouth for many years and it was cheap and seemed ok. How wrong were we! I was due to finish work at half 5 on a Friday afternoon and it was at least a 4 hour drive for us. I’m also 7 months pregnant and we knew we would be checking in later than usual and didn’t want to rush and risk speeding on the motorway. The owner couldn’t have given a damn and kept saying they would not let us check in if we did not turn up before 9pm. The man over the phone tried to prompt us to not turn up and keep our £75.00 we had already paid. He would then sell the room onto someone else. My boyfriend tried to resolve the situation over the phone but the guy just kept saying no, no. no. I then had to ask my boss if i could leave 1.5 hours earlier than usual just so we would be able to make it. It meant i had to rush home, pack my bag and get on the road as quickly as we could. This took the stress free feeling, excitement and enjoyment of going on holiday completely away. It also meant i had to make the time up on Monday and work a 9-7 shift whilst heavily pregnant. Not exactly what i need or would like to be doing after what was supposed to be a nice weekend away. We then arrived and there was no nice welcome at all after our long journey in the car and the first thing they asked for was money. Rude! During our stay, there was some noise on the first evening and it woke up my boyfriends mum at 4am. She could hear people walking in after drinking and it kept her awake for ages. Whilst eating breakfast we heard a man who was staying in the room close to us complaining to the owner about the same noise. She completely denied it and said there was no noise. She was also smoking outside the guest house every day and evening. Disgusting habit and not nice for me to be breathing in whilst heavily pregnant. We could also smell smoke in the bedrooms at night time even with the windows closed. It smelt vile. The breakfast was average. My boyfriend found the coffee disgusting that had come out of a plastic packet and looked like it had been sat there for 20 years. The extractor fan in the bathroom made an annoying noise every time the light was turned on. There was also no food allowed in the bedrooms? Strange as they provided biscuits with the tea and coffee. We also found out that they had charged us 3 payments of £75.00 when the total was £150.00 for 2 nights. My boyfriend clocked this and they reimbursed the payment. Pretty sure its illegal to be taking money out of someones account without their permission. How are they able to store the 3 digit code on the back of our bank card? #fraud We will not ever be returning to this place.
