6.72km from Baia Porto UlisseTwo of us stayed in one of the deluxe suites at Kinanto during Aug 2018. There are pluses and some big minuses with this property. The biggest plus is the manager, Hilaria, and her partner Mauro, who deserve top star rating. They could not have done more in terms of genuine, generous, empathic, attentive and constant customer care and service, including producing delicious cuisine and home-made cakes and bread during our stay. The property is very clean, spacious, light, modern and comfortable. However, far from being 'immersed in the peace of the Ragusan countryside', as the Kinanto website says, and which was the reason why we booked our stay, our experience was the opposite: a nearby very loud disco that continued until 3 a.m. one night, plus being surrounded by farmland, rather than ‘countryside’, that was being busily worked. Manure (which smelt like pig slurry) was being spread for 3 days of our 7-day stay, creating a constant, strong, very unpleasant smell that was impossible to escape from, inside or outside. The Kinanto website promises 'traditional ... smells from the area' - but this is one that we absolutely didn’t want, and that prevented any relaxation. During conversations locally we discovered that manure was spread regularly. Along with the smell of manure came a constant plague of flies, again inescapable: as we sat by the pool or at breakfast the smell and the flies were unbearable. In addition to that, the manure-spreading started shortly after 6 a.m. with the sound of heavy agricultural machinery. Again, the promise of the website - 'areas in which to relax' - was totally unfulfilled as it was impossible to relax in those circumstances. Three days of our holiday were ruined in this way. Compounding all of this was the attitude of the owner, whom we kept informed of our experiences. Far from offering even sympathy or apology, let alone compensation, his responses were at the other end of the scale from Hilaria's and Mauro's customer care. In our e-mail communications with him we experienced him as dismissive of our comments and unpleasant, and he appeared neither to recognise nor to take responsibility for the inaccuracy of the marketing messages on the Kinanto website. The whole experience was extremely stressful, upsetting and disappointing, and we couldn't wait to leave.
