I have stayed in this hotel many times, mainly due to its location in Brentwood. As it’s only for a night, due to bring out socialising with friends until late, it was suffice. But this time there were some issues. The bar didn’t open until 5pm, which didn’t go down well with most people, the toilet was a mess and had to be shut to be cleaned, my room had the bathroom falling apart, needs an upgrade, and fire alarm went off in the morning, with no explanation. I personally think the hotel could do with an upgrade, and the bar opening at 3pm like before.

Firstly, this was a very important stay! It was mine and my future husband’s Wedding Weekend. We arrived at the Best Western Ivy-Hill Hotel and we’re immediately greeted by smiley and welcoming Lauren who began taking our details for checking in. We had booked the Honeymoon Suite as it was to be our Wedding the following day at nearby Newland Hall, Roxwell. The warm, friendly and massively accommodating Libby (the Hotel’s Manager) was around the corner and came out to welcome us and wish us well for our upcoming weekend. Straight away we were at ease. The staff from here onwards were just perfection. Caring, approachable, efficient and attentive. Nothing was too much and every request was dealt with with no bother. We had a meal for 11 in the glorious BARTELLAS Restaurant that evening. The wonderful host, LORNA couldn do enough for us. But by no means was she intrusive or encroaching on our meal. She was accommodating, fun and full of life and I can 100% say that she made our evening! Of course the food was scrumptious, but without Lorna’s treatment, it wouldn’t have been the evening we had! The morning of our big day we chose to have a few drinks outside in the glorious sunshine, and again, Libby was there to add another finishing touch in the was of a few complimentary nibbles. The wedding was just perfect, and we returned, along with over 30 of our friends and family who were also staying at the Ivy-Hill and the night porter kept us going serving us in the bar until we’ll after the time we expected to bar would close!! The breakfasts were out of this world! I couldn’t fault a thing. And they also had oat milk for our coffee (which isn’t always the case at many hotels!) The room was stunning! Decadent in its decor and romantic, we absolutely loved it! It was the PERFECT stay for our Wedding Weekend! Libby, Lorna, Lauren and the rest of the staff, THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for making our ‘Once in a Lifetime’ Weekend above and beyond what we hoped and wished for! Many thanks and much love to you all! Don’t worry, we WILL be back!! See you again soon!

Oh dear. Emailed this hotel prior to booking to confirm their pet policy and charges per dog. Got an email back saying £5.00 per dog, per night (which coincided with internet research on this hotel & prior reviews). Booked this hotel and was then emailed by the same Receptionist to say the price per dog is £15.00 per night. When I questioned it, I was told they made a typo in the original email and their prices had recently gone up too.. Still, we went ahead and booked as we had little choice in the area and paid £90 for us & £60 for the dogs in total for the two nights. Upon check in, we were handed a key card and a little dog waste bag holder which was a nice gesture. From the outside, this place looks alright. Inside our room, it was awful. Carpets are so old and filthy - didn’t want to step on them without shoes on. The bed was okay. The furniture in the room was all very dated. Bathroom was disgusting - flush had to be pushed hard to make it work, mirror had brown cracks in numerous parts, sink was cracked, taps were terribly stained and shower tiles were yellow. Behind the bathroom door, it had been slammed so hard many times that the wall had a door knob shaped deep hole in it. The walls in the whole room were off colour and textured - felt like we were in a prison cell to be honest. Spent the minimum amount of time in the room that we possibly could. It’s unbelievable that they charge so much per dog really and absolutely nothing was provided for them other than the little bag holder - it should have been £5.00 per dog per night as it originally was advertised online. Did not complain to Reception as we understand this is a budget hotel but would NEVER stay here again. The only positives we could find were free parking, they allow dogs and it was quiet during our stay - for every other reason, I would avoid. Whole place needs a refurb and then they could charge more per room.
