0.02km from La Table de L'ElyseeThis is a typical three-star hotel with no aspiration to be a four-star--with a small and dimly-lit reception, an old-fashioned lift which can only take two passengers and their luggage, small, adequate but somewhat tired-looking rooms, a plastic container of a nondescript hand wash/shower gel/shampoo mounted on the bathroom wall...(the shower was good, though). The location is its strong point--a short walk from the Champs Elysees (with a Monoprix supermarket on the way). A metro station (St-Philippe du Roule, Line 9 ) is near by. Except for the two incidents described below, I would not have had any special complaint. On the day I arrived, after going out for supper, I returned a little after 8:30 pm and found that I could not enter the hotel. The automatic front door was locked and did not open. A few fellow-guests also arrived, and we tried to ring up the hotel on our mobile phones, but there was no reply. Mystified, all we could do was to stand outside the hotel, waiting (luckily, it was not raining). It was nearly fifteen minutes before the receptionist came back to the front desk and opened the door (with no word of apology). It appears that at this hotel the only person on duty in the evening is a receptionist, and whenever he needs to leave the front desk, he does so simply by locking the front door. It does not matter if returning hotel guests are forced to stand outside for Goodness knows how long. On the next day, I returned to my room in the evening and found that the room had not been cleaned, the bed not made, the wastepaper basket not emptied, no fresh supply of towels and toilet rolls... Clearly, my room had not been serviced during the day. I reported it to the reception, and the receptionist on this occasion was full of apology and tried to rectify the matter as quickly as possible. I am a seasoned traveller and have stayed at all sorts of places, from five-star hotels to humble B&Bs. But I have never been prevented from entering my accommodation or found my room unserviced. I will not go back to the Elysees Hotel; nor do I recommend it to others.
