This is a very hard trip report to write. On one side I have: fantastic, well-run resort, with lot of attention to detail – like giving us a list of our dive sites at check out - , truly welcoming staff made us feel right at home, one of the best small dive boats I’ve ever been on – really the layout was so good I wonder why it’s not done like this all over the world. Attentive, helpful boat crew (yes, I’m one of those divers, who love it, when the crew help me with my fins, set up my equipment (remembering, I want it “high” on my tank), change tanks and remembering I love water after first dive and tea after second) On the other side I have: somewhat boring food and (most disappointing) a dive guide with a camera!! And an attitude like divers are there for him, instead of the opposite – one thing that really puzzled me and that I saw other dive guides from the same company do: get out of the water before the customers? Everywhere else (Including if I as a DM lead a dive) it’s customary for the dive guide to stay in the water and assist divers. His attitude did change somewhat, when I addressed it to the manager (Well I first asked him politely to not take his own camera when leading dives, and he seemed to be fine with it, however the next 2 dives he found next to nothing interesting, and seemed annoyed with us) and we did get to see some fantastic critters, that we could not have found ourselves – although I was lucky to spot both a blue ring octopus and a Halimeda Ghost Pipe Fish. Now the resort: we booked very last minute, and spend 10 hours driving at night from Gorontalo, the transfer from the pier to the resort was ready and as we approached the resort I said to my husband: “Oh, how I wish we get to stay in one of those fabulous villas on stills in the water” And that was exactly, where we got to spend 5 peaceful nights. After a lovely welcome by the resort manager, Susanne, she invited us to have breakfast, telling us our villa would be ready after breakfast! What amazing service, most places won’t let you check in before 3 pm. Our spacious villa was spotlessly clean, the four-poster bed with mosquito-netting very comfortable (who am I kidding – it was amazing!), the veranda was perfect for a sundowner (provided we were not doing the night dive of course), facing Sulawesi with nice views and had a drying rack. The bathroom was “open” (which means you do get bugs inside, so keep the door between the room and the bathroom closed), clean and had plenty of hot water – a joy after a cold dive! Lovely well kept pool, and even a spa with good massage (do yourself a favour and try) We als had a look at the huge camera room - really nice setup! All in all: one of the best resorts I’ve ever stayed in. Just be warned: there are lots of stair! Restaurant: The welcome at the restaurant was so kind, with a handwritten welcome sign with our names on it, but as I wrote, the food was kind of a letdown. Bland and boring – however the last 2 days

Typical Indonesian room, everything you need. Clean sheets and a queen bed in the private room. Large bathroom, shower head and sink. A/C works very well. I had spotty reception, I could message on WhatsAp and Instagram, but my friends had no reception. I was using my Indonesian sim card/data plan. There is no wifi here. Their restaurant is accross the street. Breakfast is bread and various spreads, sometimes cheese is available. Tea, coffee and water available at all times. Food is delicious (mi goreng with telur). Located directly across from the entrance to the park. A walk away from the black sand beach (wear full shoes if visiting in the day! It gets way hotter than a tan colored beach!!) And also the beach inside the nature reserve (* you must pay the 100 000 entry fee. I did a Nature walk/jungle hike and already paid the fee. So I went back later to snorkel off the beach). Alfred and Chan were extremely knowledgeable and very good at pointing out all kinds of wildlife. I went here on a whim, and don't like to do touristic activites- but Tangkoko Nature reserve is worth the trip, and you have to hire a guide. They make the money well worth it. Lonely Planet PDFs (2016) are out of date- 2 hour hike is 100 000 rp, 4 hour hike is 200 000 rp. Both costs are per person- NOT per guide.

Went here for a solo trip during ramadan holidays because I wasn’t able to travel back home because of the travel ban😢 As a solo female traveler and a first-timer to do it, I had my own fair share of doubts before booking this trip. But after finishing my trip here, all I can say is that the trip is really worth it and I’m grateful I went here. The staffs were hospitable and friendly to me, some of them asked if I went there alone and very helpful. The foods were great but I think it really depends on personal taste. The room and amenities were great. My concerns were probably about the electricity and the clean water but I understand that it might be hard because of the location. The scenery and the landscape are top notch!!! I woke up to a very beautiful sunrise and ended the day with a very majestic sunset. The view of the sea and underwater scenery was breathtaking. I left my heart on this island🏝🤍 Hopefully will come back soon, but definitely with friends or family because being there is definitely a memory worth sharing.

We stayed at the Grand Q during our week of diving with Miquel's Diving Services. The hotel is quite centrally located near banks and some restaurants. We had reserved a junior suite. Upon arrival, we were brought to a room that looked so old and shabby, I could not imagine staying longer than 5 minutes, it was completely unacceptable. We complained to the front desk and they moved us to a different junior suite that was better, not perfect, but better. The next day, we were informed that they needed this suite for a wedding party and we had to move. They showed us some other rooms which were in the new building. I saw a suite that was so posh and kitschy, I thought I was at Buckingham Palace. The price was outrageous, so we declined. We settled on a standard hotel room in the new building that was ok, at least it was clean and modern. Unfortunately the mosque was right next to it and our night was over at 4.30 am with the first prayer call.... There was also a door in the room that was unlocked. When we opened it, we almost fainted, it lead to the outside of the building, but there was not a balcony, no railing, nothing. Straight down the side of the building..... just imagine if there was a child in the room and had opened this door....5 stories down with no safety barrier at all. After 2 nights, we returned from diving and when the elevator doors opened on our floor, it was unusually dark and quiet. We entered our room and there was no electricity. We went down to the front desk and they told us the lights were out in the whole area. Well, that was untrue. After we checked again 45 minutes later, they told us we had to move to another room. What actually happened is that they turned the electricity off to that entire floor because we were the only occupied room on it. Soo, here comes room # 4. It was on the 3rd floor and basically identical to the previous one on the 5th floor, same furnishings etc, BUT the bed was dirty and we had to summon housekeeping to replace the linens. The TV didn't work and we had to call maintenance to fix it. That same door leading to the unsecured outdoors was locked in this room. But there was a scaffolding in front of the window and one morning I had the pleasure of meeting one of the workers who was staring in the room. As instructed by the information booklet, I left laundry in the provided sack to have it washed by housekeeping, it was ignored completely, I had to alert the front desk and then it was picked up and the laundry returned clean the next day. We mentioned this comedy of error to Rantje from Miquel's Diving Service, who addressed this to the General Manager. He told us that we would be contacted with an apology by him, we are still waiting to hear from somebody. The pool area on the top floor of the new building looked nice, and the view from there is great. The front desk staff was very friendly We had room service dinner the first night we arrived, it was ok. Break

The hotel building seemed to look like a house, but it was actually interesting. There are a lot of cool interior decorations inside. The room I lived in was not that big, but it was pretty clean and comfortable. The location was also close to the city mall, and you can find restaurants easily close to the Hotel. Breakfast in the morning was decent with "nasi kuning" and banana. O

We booked one night at Eljie hotel after a recommendation from a friend. We got a great deal on Agoda, with a VIP Room priced at IDR228,000. For those coming from the airport, we were told there is no public transport to the city and the only choice is a taxi. Grab and GO-JEK is not yet available in Gorontalo. After negotiating hard with the taxi drivers, and also talking with a tourist who was departing from the airport, we found that there is a standard price of around IDR150,000 to the city. We later heard that somebody got a price of IDR120,000 after walking out of the airport. Arriving at Eljie, we realized it is a sharia hotel, and the signs in the room say the hotel does not accept unmarried couples and requests guests not to wear shorts. But the unmarried couple requirement is not uncommon in Indonesia and I saw people wearing shorts inside, so it is not really that strict. The hotel allowed us to check in when we arrived at 9am, but the receptionist on the desk at the time was not experienced as he didn’t know how to handle our booking through agoda, did not request payment (we booked for payment on arrival) and when I asked about renting a motorbike or the menu for the hotel's restaurant, he told me to ask another receptionist later. We later found that it is not possible to rent a motorbike from the hotel and there is a menu in the room. Not all staff speak English but they are mostly willing to help and friendly. Breakfast was yellow rice, bakwan (fried snack), green vegetables, watermelon and tea and coffee. Laundry at the hotel is a little expensive as they charge per piece, so the receptionist advised to walk down the road to find a laundry place. If you turn left as you leave the hotel and walk for ten minutes, there is a laundry place that charges by the kilo. We paid IDR40,000 for 4.1kg for the next day service and the staff were very helpful. The VIP room is like a throwback to the 1980s, but it was spacious and clean. The bed is a good size and there is a comfortable sofa area. There is also a large tv but without English channels, and tea, coffee and mineral water is provided in the room. There is also a water cooler in the dining area on the ground floor if you need to top up. The bathroom was basic but also clean. Attached to the hotel is a tour desk. The staff don’t speak english but they have their services translated into English in a small catalogue. We didn’t book a tour, but from what we saw the prices are very reasonable. For example, the whale shark tour which includes transport, a glass bottom boat tour, swim with whale shark including snorkel equipment and prawn food, trip to a cave and finally to a gift shop was IDR700,000. However, while we were there we were told it was not the season to see the whale sharks so unfortunately we did not go. Directly in front of the hotel is a small shack selling standard Indonesian food. We ordered roti bakar and fries which was tasty and good value,

One of the hotel in Gorontalo city which is very suitable for lovers of locations near urban areas.Places to eat are also very close to this hotel. The room price is also still quite fitting with the cost rather cheap especially including breakfast. This hotel is the only hotel in Gorontalo that has a garden. Tourist information is also very complete in this hotel especially for foreign tourists. If you want to enjoy a tour in Gorontalo, this hotel is also very helpful with complete tourist information. Ardhy is one of the tour guide who can help you to explore Gorontalo nature. The hotel receptionist can help you to contact Ardhy if you can't find him in the hotel. He is one of the guide who is quite experienced in Gorontalo and also very knowledgeable about Gorontalo and other areas in Sulawesi
