Very English-style road hotel. On the ground floor there is a bar and restaurant, and there is free parking in the backyard. The room was quite big and the bed was very comfortable. Suitable for self-driving travel.

We have just returned from a four night stay. We were very impressed with the level of cleanliness, we felt very safe. A warm welcome from Mandy on reception, she was very chatty and explained all the relevant restrictions because of covid. Our room 116, at the back, it was very well laid out and we slept well every night. Car Parking is provided which is a great bonus. We would definitely recommend this establishment, and look forward to staying again when we visit our family in the area. Hopefully in the not too distant future. So thank you for your lovely Hospitality.

Stayed 3 nights for business. Arrived on Sunday evening only to find that the kitchen was closed for routine maintenance / cleaning, so had to go back out to eat. Room was ok, although the mattress was too soft for my liking and the foam pillows gave me a headache. Breakfast was ok, although there was no black pudding for the duration of my stay, and the fried eggs were swimming in oil.. Top tip for using the conveyor-belt toaster is to put the bread through 3 times to get it suitably toasted. Sunday night receptionist was very helpful, but the weekday receptionist seemed uninterested in doing much. The few other staff seemed overworked, and the whole hotel seemed quite run-down and had clearly seen better days. Location is tucked away up a minor road so the surroundings are quiet, although the sound of doors closing did travel down the corridors. I think that the hotel's location might be convenient for visiting the local area and its attractions, but just don't expect too much if you stay here.

It’s what you’d expect just like any other Premier inn, the only thing that concerned us was the fact that no appliances in our room has been PAT tested. I understand due to COVID there could be delays but as you’ll see from the photos, one wasn’t done in 2019. I know that PAT testing is just an advisory for dates but for safety in such a large building you’d think it’d be stricter. The hair dryer kept cutting out as it over heated too quick. Other than that it was a great stay, quiet (except for children running through the hall but that’s no the hotels fault) the breakfast was as expected and reception were polite.

We booked at short notice and would have no hesitation of returning here. Very friendly welcoming, room was great not exceptionally plush but for the price paid very good value. Very comfortable bed, clean, very good quality teas, coffee, fresh milk in the room and water. Booked a meal in the pub which was very busy with locals and had a very nice evening meal washed down with some pleasant local ale. Breakfast was superb, the lady in charge (sorry, we forgot your name) was fab, made us feel really at home and it was a shame that another couple at breakfast were rather rude considering she was juggling the whole of the breakfasts and doing a great job, plus looking after reception. Would certainly stay again without hesitation. Lovely location, shame it was a tad damp as would loved to have walked the area but footpaths were all underwater. They also take well behaved dogs so we’re going back with ours in the spring.

The George and Dragon is an excellent Pub B&B. The welcome was professional and courteous. Rooms very clean, comfortable and of a high stand, nothing fancy, it is an old Pub after all, current owners have done an excellent job. The pub is very traditional (no fake beams) and pours a cracking pint of Guinness. It serves Gastro Pub food, without the pretentious of the typical Gastro Pub. Not a massive menu, but well thought out and makes the most of local produce and suppliers. Quality of the food is excellent well cooked, seasoned and presented. Breakfast also good and served a bit of a rarity, a proper poached egg. The staff are very efficient, pleasant and professional; without going over the top. I stayed on business and so didn’t have a choice (booking agents and all that); but if staying in area again I would demand that they book the George & Dragon. Once again excellent.

Revisiting the area with my sister and brother-in-law we took lunch here. A pleasant welcome by the young lady and am agreeable window table. Amusingly, however, we were each presented with an array of delicious-looking but wholly unordered meals due to a kitchen mix up - followed by another equally unordered array, my wife being served by no fewer than three quite distinctly different meals before them being whisked swiftly away. Order followed chaos, however, and the correct order which eventually arrived was absolutely first class. I could go on about the generous, thick, ham in my wife's ploughmans, my superb roasted vegetables etc., but suffice it to say that mt 83 year-old sister ate every scrap of her venison pie and my brother-in-law - who never eats anything other than chicken tikka masala - declared the Hatchet's offering to be the very best he had ever tasted. A superb, welcoming hostelry with unpretentious yet brilliant grub.

I love this place. The hosts are superb and we, that is the customers, are very fortunate to be able to share their home. This is the second time i have stayed, and the place just gets better. The quality of everything is exceptional, the breakfast, the coffee - wow (!), the rooms (I stayed in both) and they are both fantastic. This is a real find, so guess I shouldn't eulogise about it so much because other people will find it. I will return for business, and with my family. Just thanks.

I hadn't been here for a couple of years and lunchtime today was a real surprise. The extensions have made a good pub/restaurant into a great one. Still enough of a pub atmosphere in the front bar and a brilliant conservatory and garden adding choice for dining. Food was excellent and well presented and the choice of beers was great. Definitely recommended over other pricier locations.

We have stayed here often- several visits over the last 5-10 years. This time we stayed with friends joining us too. Our room this time was St Albans. The bathroom is huge- the four poster bed really charming. It is a double aspect large room overlooking the garden. There was an annoying cockerel on a nearby farm crowing on and off, but we enjoyed sleeping with the windows wide open, and listening to the morning birdsong. The staff here are totally excellent, polite, well trained and cheerful. We just can’t fault them. We often meet the same live-in staff, who obviously love their jobs. We particularly liked Saffron- such a lovely member of the team. Food is always 5* - never anything less. Top service and piping hot, interesting and delicious food. Can’t wait to visit again. I hope the Hamilton family who are running the hotel will cope with the Coronavirus crisis. Wonderful places like Esseborne could be so financially damaged during this time. Please visit here and support this lovely hotel- really clean place. Do not consider any of the weird poor reviews, it’s a totally top place. My only tiny mini criticism is that we’d have liked artisan homemade breads at Breakfast like we had at dinner the previous night. The breakfast is very good- except the toasted bread is not the same good quality.

We stopped here en route to Devon one Friday lunchtime. Was busy and service was fairly slow because of it, but our waitress did say it was a really busy day. I have to say at our waitress was excellent at offering alternatives for our two gluten and dairy free diners also having to avoid other ingredients such as spices and tomatoes and kept returning to the kitchen to check ingredients with a smile on her face (her Mum has intolerances, so she understood our dilemma). In the end chef was happy to make some plain chicken without a sauce and fresh veg. The chicken was beautifully cooked and seasoned with just salt and pepper. The veg was plain, but that was exactly what I asked for! Chef probably felt it was lacking taste, but suited me perfectly.
