I slept very nicely, even though the bed was made of two twin beds. I usually wake up a few times, but I slept like a baby this time. It was quiet too. The room itself is nice, clean and big enough for luggage and moving around. The desk was pretty good for working with a laptop. The shower had a very nice shower head, with both a large square overhead "rain" one, and a second which is the usual "handheld" type with multiple settings. Breakfast was quite fine, with enough choices to make me happy though it could have had a little more options. It isn't like Scandic, but it's good enough. It was about 5-6 minutes from the stop point when you use Flygbussarna (airport coach, get off at Vasaplan), and right by a lot of stores, bars and restaurants. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful.

The location of the hotel is very good, in the center of the town, close to the river, the south side room can see most of UMEA town. The scenery is beautiful, sparsely populated, and the scenery is charming. Downstairs near the pedestrian street, there is a Dadong Chinese restaurant that tastes good. There are many bars, and the girls serving in them are blond and blue-eyed. Polite.

Stayed four nights is a single room. The interior of the room, well, they tried to make it look like the interior of an old ship, I think. Dark colours, brass. Even a huge brass "picture frame" around the television. Maybe not my taste but well done an it all worked fine. Good large bed, slept well here, good bathroom, all very well, a bit cramped: Having a lot of stuff -wintersports gear, rather large suitcase etc- it was a bit small, high ceiling and so forth but hardly no floorspace left. No problem, the rest of the hotel provides lots of likeable different spaces to dwell -the library, wouw!- to sit eat and drink or to do nothing in. Breakfast: Good, nothing to whish for, it's alle there, in a very comfotable environment. If I ever return to this part of the world, could just happen, I'll be back in this place also.Stayed four nights is a single room. I spent time here as part of a business trip and the vibe of the place is so relaxed and chilled that I thoroughly enjoyed my time. Reception staff were welcoming and friendly; check in was a breeze. The rooms were modern, bed comfortable and shower was great. Everything clean and minimalist. Important for a business trip was the WiFi and it was perfect. Breakfast was a buffet style with a good selection of 'continental' fare and scrambled eggs, bacon and fresh bread. No complaints at all from me and hope to be back.

The hotel has a good environment, the service staff has a good attitude, and the sauna can be used. Unfortunately, some dishes in the dining section are not cleaned, but the summary is a very good hotel.

Passing by by car, the room card says that dinner is free from Monday to Thursday, which is incredible. Located next to E12 and very close to the city center, it is very convenient. You can park on the road but it can be divided into single and double days. It is clean and convenient. There is a large lake next to E4 in 10 minutes by car. It is worth a visit.

Highly recommending this hotel in a fabulously re-purposed heritage building. Central to town, buses and train station. We arrived very late in the evening, and were greeted with a friendly and professional welcome - and comfortable well appointed room. A conference was also happening in the hotel today, and the facilities/rooms for this looked terrific (if you are wondering about function facilities). Wish we were staying longer!!! Definitely a five star choice in Umea.

I arrived here at 2am, and as the doors had access codes I could still get into the building (although I wasn’t sure which door the code was intended for as there are many!). My key was in a safe, however the lock to the room was really difficult to use. I had to make my own bed. The room (individual) had a desk, chair and a sink which was handy. There was also a window that you could open. Check out was early (10am). And you had to make sure that your room was clean when you left. The breakfast was amazing. I loved everything, and they had such a good selection; breads, cheese, humous, yoghurt, cereal, meats etc. It was just what I needed after a long night! Staff were really friendly, and showed me where I could leave my bags and were understanding when I arrived late. It was clean hostel and that was well decorated with loads of bright colours. There was a big spacious kitchens. Located really close to the train station, its an ideal place to stay when in Umea.

If you are looking a price worthy stay in Umeå I recommend; Hotell Gamla fängelset. (I have been to several other hotels in the city; Elite, Scandic, U&Me, Stora hotellet) In comparison “Gamla fängelset” is a small scale hotel in a historical building that used to be a prison, managed by very dedicated and service orientated owners. The rooms, beds, breakfast are great values for the price. The rooms are clean and quite, the location is great. The hotel with the history as a prison is for real, it doesn’t need any made up theme – it is authentic. Highly recommended! Note! One has to understand that the rooms are former cells, and that toilets and showers are located outside.

We stayed for one night with the whole family. Everyone of us was sleeping like a bear. Nice to have a good night sleep, a hot shower and a nice breakfast. Only minus was that their was no bacon (it was finish) and in the room it was still hair from earlier guests. A calm and beautiful hotel with gym, pool and a nice lounge.
