World famous Kealakekua Bay is a marine sanctuary and historical site known for its clear waters, coral reefs and diverse marine life including unusual fish, dolphins, and seasonal humpback whales. Enjoy K Bay, swimming with dolphins nearby and often seeing migrating whales during the winter months! The surrounding mountain views are incredible. Snorkeling will give you a close up view of yellow tang, convict fish and others, swimming and paddle boarding are perfect exercise any day, and kayaking to the monument is a wonderful adventure, To enjoy Kealakekua Bay, you can snorkel from Manini Beach, tour Kealakekua Bay on a kayak, or hike to Captain Cook Monument on a challenging hiking trail and then take a dip in the ocean. At Manini beach find excellent snorkeling and small sandy pools for little children. We have a one-man kayak and a one-man SUP/kayak combo for our guest’s use and a good variety of snorkel gear in many sizes. The shady park with picnic tables will keep everyone happy for hours! Come back to the house and consider using the outdoor shower to rinse off sand and sea water, pick some fruit from the trees, then relax on the private, covered second story lanai.
This spacious and airy home sleeps seven comfortably with large screened windows, high ceilings and overhead fans in every room. The decor is laid back Hawaiian from days gone by. Walls are decorated with local artwork as well as art collected in the South Pacific in the 1960s and more recently the Cook Islands.
There is a desk and office chair in the nook off the living room. Feel free to use the 25” wide monitor, full size keyboard, mouse and docking station.
The master bedroom has a queen-size bed, newly remodeled private bath with a walk-in shower. An adjoining sleeping porch has a twin bed.
The hall bedroom ("hula room") has a queen-size bed and adjoining updated bath that also opens to the hall. The third bedroom ("bird room") has twin beds.
Prepare meals in the well equipped kitchen that includes a rice cooker, cast iron skillets, blender, coffee grinder and your choice of coffee makers. Sleep with the sound of the ocean in your ears and wake to the riotous songs of birds outside your window. Feed the birds each morning and enjoy the show while you sip your coffee.
The Bay and the village of Napo'opo'o are unlike any you will find in the islands. The area is a quiet village with no condos, hotels, stores, or crowds. All shopping and dining are located 4 miles up the hill in Captain Cook or in the other local villages of Kealakekua and Kainaliu Town. Coolers are available at the front door and in the downstairs laundry area to keep your food purchases fresh - including fish from the Sunday farmers market.
The yard is a forest of palms and fruit trees - including papaya, grapefruit, soursop, tangerine, lime, lemon, orange, star fruit, banana and mango. Feel free to help yourselves to the bounty. There is also a fruit and banana bread stand down the street.
Most rentals down at the bay have an additional rental unit and ours is no exception however the second unit has a permanent tenant. Karen has lived on the property for over 20 years in a small Ohana below the house. She has proven to be a wonderful local resource to our guests and is available for issues that may arise.
The house is located in an intimate neighborhood which most guests appreciate and enjoy, and we observe quiet time after 8:00 PM out of respect for our neighbors. Parties and events are not allowed. Rentals are for a minimum of 5 nights.

Nestled in the jungle, our cozy tiki hut offers 2 adjacent comfortable rooms, each with its private entry from a shared lanai/outdoor living space. A covered outdoor walkway leads to a small but practical kitchen and shared bath among cottage guests only. Queen beds and fast internet make each room ideal for remote work.
Located in a unique jungle setting minutes away from the famous Captain Cook trail with breathtaking views leading to Kealakekua Bay, our hut is also a great place to stay for a weekend. Note that a 17.5% additional State/County Tax is added to each booking.

The space
This contemporary home built in Hawaii's traditional plantation style provides a central base to explore the dynamic Island of Hawaiʻi. Tucked away on a secluded corner of our family's vibrant 5-acre organic produce and coffee farm, guests enjoy a peaceful private farm stay just minutes away from Kealakekua village.
The sunny plant-filled open living area has bamboo flooring, modern rugs, and large windows that look out on banana forest, farm scape, and sweeping ocean views. Bright and well equipped kitchen and dining areas flow seamlessly with the peaceful living room and lounging area on the front lanai. The kitchen adjoins an outdoor living area with secluded yard and grilling area, surrounded by rustic tropical gardens.
Bedroom 1 has a large walk-in closet and attached full bath, and bedroom 2 includes a modern work space, ample closet area, and adjacent full bath. Both bedrooms have comfortable California king beds, fresh linens, and large windows looking out on lush tropical private exterior spaces.
To accommodate additional guests, the living room can be set up with a queen sofa bed, or arrangements can be made for a portable crib or two folding single futons.
Far from the sounds of traffic and commerce, guests are greeted in the morning by birdsong, wild chickens, and the stirrings of farm life. Sunset is heralded by the sound of birds returning to our nearby bamboo grove, and evenings often include a steady jungle chorus of chirping coqui frogs.

Private off-street parking adjacent to the house accommodates up to 3 vehicles. Local shops and grocery store, restaurants, bars and other services are less than a mile away. The house is a half a mile from Kona’s main highway and is accessed by a paved one-lane private road that requires polite and careful driving, The road and our short dirt/gravel driveway do not require AWD/4WD but we recommend avoiding rental vehicles with very low clearance.
Other things to note
This peaceful restorative space lends itself well to contemplative practices, and yoga mats props are provided for your use. The quiet neighborhood of small farms also lends itself to hill walking and exploring.
Nearby beaches offer stunning views and spectacular snorkeling. The house is well stocked with beach gear (towels, beach umbrella, beach blanket, chairs, cooler…). For ocean adventurers, body boards and snorkel gear are available as well.
