In general, it is not bad for me to stay in a single room with a common bathroom for 10 nights. Above all, I would like to express my gratitude to the staff's efforts to manage the City Hostel clean which is too old and out fashioned building. * Location & Transportation Without noise, it is the best location to stay. It is located at 2 2-minute walk distance from Attaba subway station that connects to the Ramsis Railway Station and the Egypt Museum, only 1~3 stops away, charging 6 EGP per way. Of course, you can go to both by walk in 20 minutes. It means you can also enjoy the Nile riverside which is close to the museum. And it is a 2-minute walk distance from the Attaba market which is the biggest public market in Cairo and so many locals visit to buy their livelihoods stuff at a cheap price. In addition, you can also walk to the Al Azhar Mosque and Khan El-Khalili traditional market in 30 minutes, and St. Marc Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in AL Azbakeya in 10 minutes Two problems I experienced are firstly the noi⁹sy from 8 am to 3 am outside the building due to market area and cars' horns. It took 3 days for me to adapt it. Any room in the hostel cannot escape it without changing the windows to soundproof ones. If you are sensitive to sound, it is better to find other lodges in a residential area or modernized ones. Secondly, its location on the Uber taxi map and other maps is not accurate, so drivers have some problems in finding the city hostel. I have to meet them in front of the KFC next to the Attaba subway station. The signboard of the hotel is too small to recognize it. * Building and room conditions Like many other buildings in Cairo, the hostel building is old and shabby. The interior design and facilities are also outdated. However, the staff manages it so clean, particularly a common toilet and shower room. It is quite convenient a washstand in each room. However, it is bad there is no electronic kettle to boil water in a room or a common space. I could not enjoy my tea or coffee time at any time. I have to ask for hot drink water every morning when receiving breakfast, and store it in my tumbler. It will be better to provide a tea or coffee service area in the hostel. * Cleanness & Safety Cleanness and safety are very good. I have no issue with this. * Services There is no basic service that most guesthouses provide in general: toilet paper and drink water. Wifi is too weak to use the internet. Other services like laundry are satisfied. * Others During my stay, I couldn't enjoy having an exchange time with other travelers. I think it is because there is no reason to stay in a common space where only sofas and a table are. Largely guesthouse provides a commonplace where guests enjoy better the internet or drinks including tea or coffee and foods, which makes guests meet each other naturally and structurally. In conclusion, if the hostel provides basic services like toilet paper and commonplace with drink water and electronic kettles, it will be much better. And it is necessary to change its signboard so that is more recognizable. Except issues I mentioned above, it is a very good budget lodge.

So this old pile is the place, I am sure, described by Roald Dahl in 'Madame Rosette' a lightly raunchy tale about young men in WWII. Or it its the setting for one of the encounters in Durrell's Balthazar, or both. I first came here forty years ago and it really hasn't changed at all. As we head toward 2020 yes, it looks backwards with fondness and poignance. There is a certain dark comedy about the cranky lift and the bakelite telephone exchange. But . . . the staff have this outrageous languid 'seen it all' confidence. Nobody is bothered. So yes, it is a wreck, but you have to love it to bits because its your grandmother's house. The doors and walls have seen stuff, heard stuff... Do expect: things to go slowly, a limited range of things for breakfast, creaky floorboards, noisy streets outside, cranky plumbing. Do expect: a slightly odd taste in decor that blends Swiss chalet with British country pub, all laid on encaustic tiles to die for. Dark hallways. Ghosts. Nice ones. Don't expect: slick computers, slick people, the generic blandness of any chain hotel. Do expect: the sweetest kindest funniest staff. All of them. Thank you.

Very nice hostel for Egyptian conditions. Sensational service, great location by the metro lines in the very center and good connection to Giza. Very helpful staff, suggests how to visit well. There are different rooms. 3-person mix as well as private rooms with their own bathroom even for whole families. Recommended. The price is sensational, adequate for Egypt. The hotel was terrible, upon entering the lobby, people were smoking inside. And my room was SO old, it did not look like the booking page photos, the bathtub was all scratched, the bathroom just looked so old and gross. The vent was NOISY and smelly. The sofa looked like it was 20 years old and all dented. The bed did not look made. Pillows looked like it had just been slept on. The lamp shade was crooked. The carpet looked so dirty. This hotel is in need of a renovation. I couldn’t stay there after what I saw and requested a change of room. And they were able to put me in the new annex and it looked much more acceptable and normal there.

This is the most comfortable hotel I have stayed in Egypt these days. It is in the villa area. It is very stylish, very clean, and very quiet. If you want to live in a downtown area for shopping, it is not suitable, but people who like quiet must be very I like it. The price is 300 to 400 RMB. It is much better than many Chinese B&Bs at the same price. However, all hotels in Egypt do not have combs, slippers, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. You need to bring your own.

General impression - a normal place to stay for a few nights. Perfect location nearby Egyptian Museum and the Sadat subway station. But this causes a very noisy surrounding: honking cars move just beneath the windows all day long. Helpful staff. A very nice cafe La Poire accessible without leaving the building. Good breakfast, a lot of options changing daily. Coffee could have been better though. The room was cleaned (I moved two beds together and found no dust underneath), but it's quite weary. The window lock didn't work, the fridge was loud. Black mold in the shower was upsetting, too. No iron nor ironing board in the room, but ironing service available at a reasonable price about 50 EGP per piece.

Nice breakfast on one day. Clean room. Convenient location to train with good walkability. But I expected more from the staff's local knowledge. They had absolutely no idea where a post box was, even tho I'd seen one myself a few days earlier and simply couldn't remember its exact location. Then, no help whatsoever in mailing a postcard bc post offices would be closed for several days. One day's breakfast was disappointing compared to only the day before - the place was inconsistent. Great walking location also meant Uber driver had a difficult time reaching us at one point in the evening, and we walked to them after some confusion. Lively downtown area also means a LOT of street noise. Hotel's wooden floors, doors and hallways were incredibly loud at all hours, and staff was loud in the morning. Bring earplugs.

The room was very beautiful. The hotel is situated in old buildings andhas old furniture but thats whats giving it its special spirit. The pool is avarage size-not big, not small and the deep is around 165cm. The water needs to be cleaned. But its very good for kids and also for adults. In the night there were swimming courses for kids from outside the hotel, which made the garden area very crowded and noisy. Our big thanks belongs to Mai from reception. Traveling for half a month, this is the only room where I didn’t leave a tip when I checked out. After checking in, we went out to the museum immediately. When we came back to the room very late, we wanted to take a bath and relax. We found that there was a lot of hair in the bathtub, and then we found the room The carpet is also full of hair, white, golden, brown ~ and fingernails! ! ! ! ! ! ! I called the manager, took a look, and asked the floor attendant to clean it in front of us, but the manager disappeared without any explanation or explanation to us, and the cleaning is to wash away the hair in the bathroom with water and then dry it! ! ! ! ! ! The hotel is in a good location, right next to the Chinese Embassy. It is very convenient to go to various attractions. Izzy who works at the front desk, had everything ready and waiting for our arrival, she was 10 steps ahead lol and I can appreciate that. Thank you Izzy!! They try their best to accommodate your requests. 5/5 for customer service and staff. Cleanliness of the room 5/5 and comfort 5/5. Did not like that the bar was close for the nights we stayed there so that really was our only con about our stay. I definitely recommend the Gabriel, two thumbs up!

Lovely smart hotel. Several restaurants. Massage and gym. Staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel nice sbd roomy. Rooms spacious. Would stay there again but if you want to be in the town centre with many shops you need to stay closer to city centre as this, was, about 30 minutes from airport. It didn't matter because everything is a short cheap taxi fare away. Also it's next to a military camp where you can see and hear the soldiers marching from your balcony. If the bugle noise bothers, you at 6am then maybe not for you. Also, but not related to the hotel you'll be woken up at 4am by the, wailing from the mosques but you can't really get away from that can you. The hotel I understand is, owned by the military and so you'll often see soldiers stay there. They weren't any trouble. In fact it made you feel safe.

Great place to base out of when visiting Cairo. The rooms are clean and the staff (especially Anas) are super friendly while doing whatever they can to make your staff in Egypt the best. They've got connections and can even help with making tour recommendations and reservations. Best of all, there is no pressure to take additional services if the price isn't what you had in mind. They're very accommodating . In fact they are more of a family run business while focusing more on you as a person and less as a customer. You'll come as strangers but leave as friends.

So, I booked this room months in advance. As we approached the arrival date, I emailed the hotel to let them know that we had a late flight coming in at around midnight. I wanted to make sure there were no issues. They replied back that it wasn't going to be a problem. The day before we arrived the hotel emailed me asking about our arrival time. Once again I told them that it was going to be a late arrival and the assured us it was not going to be a problem. We arrived at the hotel only to be told that they sold our room to someone else. I inquired as to how this could happen considering I communicated with them twice, the most recent being less than 24 hours. They didn't really have an answer, but told us that they we're going to take us to a sister hotel that was just as nice. We sat around waiting for them to get a driver to take us to this other hotel. While I was waiting I decided to look up this hotel which they told us was nicer than theirs. That was an outright lie, and this 'better hotel' was about $20 a night and had mediocre, at best, reviews. After waiting about 45 minutes to be taken to this other hotel, I learned it was about a 5-minute walk. Extremely frustrated, and it now being after 1:00 a.m. in the morning after 15 hours of flying, I decided to just walk to this other hotel. Keep in mind I've got my wife and son with me and I've never been to Cairo before. This was a very uncomfortable, highly concerning, and alarming experience. The next morning, we had planned to get up and begin our visit of Cairo, but we couldn't do that because we had to check out of this hotel, and walk to our original hotel. Once we got there, we had to sit and wait for the room we paid for to be ready. You would think the manager or owner would come over and at the very least apologize. This never happened, and as it stands I'm questioning whether or not I should dispute the charge that I paid on my credit card for a room we never received. What's most concerning, is that this hotel has a pattern for doing this. If you search other reviews online, you will find that this is happening to other customers. It would seem that they like to pull you in with the allure of their own nice hotel, only to shove you off to a lesser hotel and keep the money. My warning to anyone reading this, if you're planning on booking at this hotel, have a backup plan. You don't want to be like me where I have my wife and son at 1:00 in the morning coming into a foreign country only to find out they gave your room to someone else after you verified it twice. I would not stay at this hotel again if it was free. It is 100% not worth the risk
