The Meat & Wine Co Canberra
Hello everyone, this is a bored woman in Australia. The Meat & Wine Co Canberra is located in downtown Canberra. It has two sections, left and right. The restroom is on the right. We sat in the left section this time. The atmosphere was great, the decor was upscale, and the space was perfect for a date, but the afternoon sunlight almost blinded me. Menu and cutlery are provided on the table. We've eaten at both the Melbourne and Canberra branches. Personally, I felt the Melbourne steaks were smaller but tastier, while the Canberra steaks were larger (?) but not as amazing. However, the water was always delicious. If you have a large group, you can consider the set menu, priced at AU$99, AU$110, AU$135, and AU$160 respectively. However, since we each wanted to eat very different things, we ended up ordering à la carte. [Garlic Bread AU$16] I ordered garlic bread once in Melbourne. To be honest, it didn't taste very garlicky, but the bread itself was quite delicious. With a generous amount of butter, it was very fragrant. However, at AU$16 for two small pieces, I think it's better to just buy some and heat it up yourself. [Yellowfin Tuna Sashimi AU$33] Although the menu says yellowfin tuna sashimi, it tasted like it was seared or smoked when it arrived. I don't like things that are too raw or undercooked, so I didn't try it, but my friends all ate it and thought it was delicious, so I recommend it. [King Prawns AU$39] A serving of only three king prawns. The prawn meat was very springy, and the sauce underneath was full of prawn flavor. It came with a focaccia on the side, and the bread was quite good, but at AU$13 per prawn, it was a bit of a shock to my wallet. [Portuguese Chicken AU$39] The Portuguese-style grilled chicken skewers are the same price as the shrimp skewers above, and the portion is much larger. Although it's said to be marinated in Portuguese-style sauce, I actually think it tastes similar to Taiwanese grilled meat skewers, just with a stronger spice flavor. The meat is very tender and delicious! I wouldn't recommend ordering the shrimp; order the chicken skewers instead. You can choose between salad or fries as a side dish. We chose the salad, and it was placed at the bottom, so a lot of the sauce probably dripped down (?), making it incredibly salty. Even I, who consider myself to be very salty, felt like I needed to have my kidneys washed out. [Lemon Pepper Lamb AU$55] This lemon and black pepper lamb skewer comes with the same accompaniment as the chicken skewers. The lamb is grilled to a rather dry state, with a hint of black pepper flavor. Overall, the lamb flavor isn't very strong, and the lemon flavor isn't very pronounced. Although the meat itself isn't very fatty, it's not too tough to chew. Personally, I found the chicken skewers more impressive. The fries I chose as a side dish were just average. They offer a variety of sauces, but they're all thick, simmered sauces, served in small bowls. If you want to use the sauce, it costs an extra AU$6-AU$9. Actually, both skewers have half a large lemon on them, but because they're so long, it was difficult to photograph, so I took two separate photos due to my OCD. [O'Connor Fillet 300g AU$87] I ordered this O'Connor fillet again because I loved it in Melbourne. Even though it's 300g, it felt bigger (?). I ordered Medium Well, the same doneness, but the texture was very different. It tasted like it was well-done, completely lacking the tender and satisfying texture I had in Melbourne. It was tough to chew despite being fillet. [Mayura Station Signature New Yorker (Long Grain Fed, 450 Days, MB9+) AU$253] This dish wasn't even on the menu. I had to ask customer service to find out what it was. "Mayura Station" refers to a high-end Wagyu cattle ranch in South Australia, specializing in long-grain-fed, high-marbling (MB9+) Wagyu New York Strip cattle that are grain-fed for 450 days to achieve MB9+ marbling. As it turned out, we had a pregnant woman and a child at our table, so we had to choose a familiar restaurant. While it still had a unique aroma and good texture, I had absolutely no idea what its value was (sorry, Niu Niu). [Amaretto Sour AU$24] A typical "girly" drink, it was sweet and sour, and it saved me from almost being overwhelmed by the saltiness of the salad under the chicken skewers. It was just right to cut through the richness. Okay, that concludes today's restaurant review. See you next time! #travel2026
Commonwealth Park
Here’s a quick adventure highlight from Parkes, featuring the dreamy tulip festival at Canberra’s Commonwealth Park 🌷✨ Top Spots to Visit: 🌺 Commonwealth Park: Commonwealth Ave, Canberra ACT 2601. This sprawling park is absolutely stunning during the tulip festival, with walking paths lined by colorful blooms and dazzling floral installations for your photo feed. The park is open all day, so it’s perfect whether you want sunrise serenity or sunset vibes. Practical Tips: Hit up the tulip festival early morning to beat the crowds and get those uninterrupted flower shots! The park’s central location makes it easy to stroll to nearby cafés for a coffee break—café culture is legit here. Pack a picnic or grab food from local stalls in the festival area for budget eats. If you’re short on time, focus on the main garden displays close to the entrance (less walking, still max tulip impact). Getting Around: Canberra’s compact layout means you can easily walk to key spots around Commonwealth Park or hop on local buses for wider exploring. Parking fills up fast during festival season—take public transport if you can for less hassle. Food Picks: Check out pop-up food carts inside the park during the festival, especially the Dutch pancakes stand (seriously, don’t miss it 🍽️). For a sit-down meal, local favorites like The Cupping Room nearby offer brunch perfection. Extra Tips: No special visa needed for most visitors, just bring a good camera and sun protection—spring in Canberra can be unexpectedly sunny. #CanberraTulipFest #ParkesAdventure #TravelHacks #FlowerLover
