"We had two rooms for two nights in half-term. The rooms were small but really lovely with lots of good touches - nice toiletries, a little aperitif, Tea Pig teabags, quality linen. All good. And then we ate in the restaurant! Of our party of 6, everyone had something wrong with their dish and we are not that fussy! My husband ordered a salad but said, "No pancetta please as I am a vegetarian." His salad then came with no pancetta but with slices of what looked like cheap supermarket salami covering it. We were horrified! The waiter did say another salad could be prepared but we had already waited for such h a long time, so my husband just removed the salami and ate. Three of our party ordered the burger and found the heavy bun almost inedible as it was rock hard. The fries it came with were sweet potato which was not noted on the menu and one of our party cannot bear sweet potato. My steak was no better than a cheap "steak medallion" I can get at Aldi. Our meal cost £200 and was of the quality of a motorway service station. Needless to say we ate out at a local restaurant the next night which was superb, fresh, and cost less than half the price. In contrast to dinner, breakfast at the William Cecil was quite good, though we ordered the waffles with bacon and maple syrup, again asking for no bacon. However, both portions came WITH bacon and it was honey, not maple syrup, again making it inedible for one of the two who ordered it. What is going on in the kitchen here? It is massively letting a nice place down, as are the waiting staff who are not taking note of clear requests. I shudder to think what might happen if someone had a serious allergy as there seemed to be little care for any special requests. Could do alot better on the food front!"
"Staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. This was the outstanding feature of the hotel. Food was excellent and portions fair. The cooked breakfast was good ingredients, perfectly cooked to order, which is not always the case in hotels. Special requests were happily accommodated. Breakfast is included in the room price, which makes for good value. OUr room faced the back and was quiet at night. Shower but no bath. I must say though that the windows were in very poor condition over the whole hotel. We had no problem with the shabby decor. Location very good, plenty of parking. Overall a very good break."
"We stayed with our 2 dogs for one night in September. Great welcome and our room in the Lodge House was large, well appointed, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Dinner was superb, a warm and convivial atmosphere and we enjoyed the bar despite the new Covid rules! Great walks with direct access to Burghley. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially in what must be very challenging circumstances. We'll definitely be back, thank you! "

"Yes, the hotel is very new. We are on the way from York to Cambridge. We have a rest in the middle. It should be the best hotel in the UK. The room is spacious, the equipment is new and clean."

"Just about managed to get in an overnight stay to see the lovely ancient town of Stamford before seemingly the country locks down again, and chose The Crown based on reviews. Clearly these are challenging times for all, and it really isn't easy for the hospitality industry to find a way to make it work, particularly when working with very old buildings and inflexible layouts. The Crown has done well to devise a one-way system, but unfortunately not all stick to it, staff included. Check-in was quick and efficient, and the lady kindly showed us to our rooms. The rooms were good enough, with comfy beds, and a very good, powerful shower. We would have preferred better ventilation though. Windows didn't seem to open at all, and the room got very hot and stuffy. Interesting to see a floor fan set up at the end of October, but that doesn't provide the fresh air we wanted. We booked for dinner and the spacing of the tables towards the back of the restaurant made us feel safe. Unfortunately our waiter wasn't very warm and personable which grated a bit. Food was very good in general, but the supposedly "twice-cooked chips" were barely cooked once and I had to leave them. Didn't complain because I didn't mind saving the calories, but as part of a 30-quid main course, you expect better without having to say something. Best part was breakfast. It really was fantastic, generous and delicious, and served by a friendly and cheerful lady. This absolutely makes all the difference. She should perhaps have a word with the chap who did the dinner service on the Wednesday night. Overall it was a good stay, but might just try the George or go back to the William Cecil next time."
"This was our second stay at this inn as we enjoyed our previous stay so much. All rooms are individually decorated. Loved the in room tea and coffee, especially the hot chocolate and the bottled water. Fresh milk is available from the fridge on the corridor. We had a shower room this time which was great with powerful shower. Great food in the pub below. Good portions and helpful bar staff. If you are vegetarian ask for a separate menu. The breakfast is a buffet (cereal, toast, fruit, yoghurt etc) as well as items that can be ordered from the kitchen. We were aware that the hotel is a pub and so weren't so worried about the noise from the bar below or the street it overlooks, because after closing time all goes quiet. The only negative was that we tried to open the windows to get some air overnight, but was unable to so it was a little stuffy."
"We booked last minute and were shown 3 rooms to choose from for our overnight stay. It was difficult to choose which room as they were all beautiful and very clean. We opted for a lovely room with a roll top bath and a separate shower, with luxurious toiletries. The hotel was spotless and the staff were very welcoming. The price included breakfast and there were plenty of choices. The english breakfast was cooked perfectly, and the sausages were very meaty. The waitress was very helpful and friendly. The hotel was a perfect choice and we would definitely stay here again, we can highly recommend it."

"I stay at the White Hart around two nights a week, and have been for over six months. Its a home from home and in all that time its always been utterly excellent (and I am an extremely fussy traveller on the road all the time.) Before settling on the White Hart as my weekly abode I stayed at most of the decent hotels and inns in the area. And, without a doubt, this is the best place. Why? Here are ten reasons why... 1. Clean. The whole place is always sparklingly clean and well cared for 2. Evening food. Excellent. The burger is juicy and huge, the menu is always great and filling and tasty 3. The locals. Always friendly and some great characters 4. The decor. Ecclectic and yet not kitch. So many treasures on the walls to find 5. Breakfast. That bacon. That sausage. Those eggs 6. The village. Like something off a tin of shortbread biscuits 7. The rooms. Beds and pillows are excellent, rooms are smart and spacious 8. Location. About 10 mins from the A1. Why do people stay at horrid chain hotels when this is epic 9. The staff. Always friendly and fun and helpful 10. The extras. Want a flapjack? Eggs? Local paper? Play a board game? I think this is the perfect pub and rooms. I have stayed over 100 nights and never had a bad time."
"Super pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord and then we had our meeting in a nicely decorated back room. We all had haddock, chips and mushy peas which was perfect. Service was great and the lady landlord was very helpful. Great here for pub food."
"Went here for Sunday lunch and it was smashing. The pub is really well set out and our food was really tasty (we had roast port and the beef). Would definitely come back on a week day to try their usual menu. Staff friendly and helpful."

"A last minute booking for a short 2 night break before lockdown. With good weather forecast I wanted to get a couple of days away whilst I could. The hotel was very clean, Covid precautions were very good at this hotel and it was good to get away to somewhere where I could feel safe. Location was good, being close to the A1 but not right beside it, and only just over an hours drive from home. Quiet location in what seemed a nice area and far more out in the country for walking than it initially appears. I left my car in the car park and did a great 8 mile walk by the River Nene and around Ferry Meadows and Nene Valley Country Park. Room was warm and comfortable and very quiet. Very comfortable bed, nice clean bathroom and good shower. Much better than I had expected for a fairly basic budget hotel. Breakfast was very good and well organised considering the current circumstances. Good to have bacon or sausage baps freshly made to order. It was quiet so I had breakfast in the dining area but large bags were provided for a grab and go breakfast in your room. I didn’t try any food in the evening because I ate out during the afternoon. The thing that really made this hotel was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. I was made very welcome on arrival and on departure they genuinely were concerned that you should have had a good stay. The breakfast staff were also extremely friendly and helpful in explaining the current breakfast routine. It’s definitely somewhere I will stay again for leisure purposes to do some more walking and to explore the surrounding towns and villages. "
"i stayed at the Holiday Inn express Peterborough for three days in mid July .20. The room was a very good size and i liked the television. However, the shower temperature started at approximately 40c + — way too hot, at least to ^finish showering. i felt really light-headed in the shower, after only a few minutes. There were several anti-social people (guests) going in and out of each other’s rooms. This meant that the doors were opening and closing throughout the entire evening, which i found very annoying, especially at a sensory level. People were also /in the corridor/, apparently talking etc.— when you are instructed at reception to go straight to your room in this era. However, the staff were very helpful and good-natured. They made up for the inconsiderate and boorish nature of some of the guests. So, with regard to the staff and room itself, i would rate this hotel highly, especially for room rate. Thank you especially — Annabel and Georgie! christopher"
"We have visited this holiday inn Express many times and have never been disappointed. On this visit Georgia went above and beyond. We ordered pasta and pesto chicken, however this wasn't available. So Georgie made us chicken wrapped in bacon topped with cheese accompanied with BBQ sauce. This is the best meal I have ever had here. Plus I observed her cleaning her hands with hand gel at least twice before going into the kitchen. She is pleasant, well mannered friendly and an extremely brilliant cook!! She is such an asset to this hotel. However Ivan who checked us in is also worth a mention he was friendly and efficient. These two staff deserve recognition within the organisation. Well done Georgie and Ivan thank you so much. "

"The first time we visited as a family of 5 was on a Saturday in Sept, 2020. At that time I would have given 5 stars, Great food and service. It might have been been because they weren't busy. We thought we'd go back for a birthday lunch, again, 5 of us, on Sunday 18th October 2020. We had a table booked for 1pm. We were sat at our table and drinks orders were taken. We decided that only 2 of us wanted a starter so we ordered along with a main course. We waited, and waited, then about 45 minutes later our main courses came. No sign of our starters! We asked where they were and apparently they had not even been entered on our order. We said not to bother as we didn't want our food kept 'warm' while we waited for them to prepare the starter. We were very disappointed, the waitress seemed very stressed and not at all friendly. We felt very uncomfortable aftet that. So they brought the mains back out, which by this time were not that hot. The actual food was nice, can't complain about the quality of the food. We ate our main and seem to wait a very long time for our table to be cleared. Four of us ordered dessert. Tiny portions of the chocolate brownie, not worth what we paid. We had been there for 2 5 hours by this time, the place was very busy. The atmosphere not very welcoming, stressed staff and too many people to keep adequate social distancing. We asked for the bill, twenty minutes later we asked again. In the end one of our relatives told them if they wanted us to pay to call him and walked out. It took over half and hour and for aboutus to stand by the bar so we could actually pay. The staff were rude, the owner said she wanted an apology from my relative for being rude!!! He just wanted to pay and leave and it took over half an hour! They did knock 10% off the bill and made excuses that they were short staffed. We will never visit again, we were there for three hours and it was not a nice relaxing experience. They should also teach their staff about customer service. Very very disappointing, don't bother. "
"Had a lovely warm welcome from Damien the manager. The log fire was ablaze and it was lovely warm and cosy inside the pub. Our family group of 10 and our Border Terrier was seated at our table that was previously booked. A drinks order was promptly taken . Menus were given out. Most of us had starters soup ..pate...and pakoras..all very nice. The mains roast dinners all very nicely presented. The braised pork was amazing. Lots of nice fresh vegetables too. No room for desert but my granddaughter had the choc brownie and ice cream. Was a very large square too. All in all a very nice evening . "
"We stayed here in October when attending the Stamford Georgian Festival B&B. We did not have an evening meal there (but wished we had given the rest) We had a lovely large bedroom with equally spacious bathroom - seperate shower, proper bath. Great breakfast too but the iceing on the cake was the very warm welcome and helpful staff. Oh, and Everards cask beers too. We completely agree with other 5* reviews. Very handy if you are travelling on the A1, but nb they only have 3 or 4 rooms."

"Not our first stay at this in and most definitely will not be our last. The team are friendly, helpful and thoughtful and have put a lot of thought and work into making their inn as Covid proof as it’s possible to be. Food is first class our two choices for dinner, chicken and bacon Caesar salad for my wife and an absolutely delicious hone made southern fried chicken burger, I’d love the recipe! Breakfast was cooked to order and good quality ingredients. Can’t recommend it enough, we’ll be popping in again next month"
"Myself and wife stayed at the Sibson Inn for one night. The hotel is very nice and relaxing. The restaurant and bar area is cosy. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The hotel room was comfortable and clean. My only issue was that when driving around to the back car park there is no lighting. I ended up getting my car stuck on the grass due to not being able to see the small driveway. I needed towing off the grass by a van who was luckily there to help. The hotel needs to improve the driveway lighting. Apart from this it was a perfect stay. I would stay again and highly recommend. "
"We attended our friends wedding in September. The venue was decorated nicely. Our family room was fairly spacious - lovely shower room. Quite a few stairs which wasn't great when we had to take up sleepy children and a buggy at night! Breakfast was lovely but could have eaten more! "

"Spent five days at Normanton from the 1st October to 6th October for my 50th Birthday. Absolutely lovely stay. Wayne and Nicola could not have been more helpful to make it as special as they could. The evening meals in the restaurant were delicious and the two waiters were really nice lads. We are both vegetarian, but found lots to choose from. This hotel has one of the best views from the main bedrooms that you could wish for, and please do not listen to the negative reviews, as it is definitely worth a stay. Thank you Normanton for making my 50th so memorable and we hope to come and stay again soon."
"I guess we were unlucky as a tranquil stay was not how our trip panned out. The room as small as it was was functional although I understand that it is an old building but the window frames rotting in the bathroom it would seem let in far to much wind very chilly. Breakfast was excellent very much the star of the show with a vast selection of hit and cold food unlimited supply of tea and coffee great service. The restaurant is simply overpriced, food not bad but £23 for a steak? And £7 for a cheese board that to be honest had about a £1 of cheese. My advice have the bar menu the food although again far to expensive but much more for your money. The bar and lounge area was where issues began to arise with a party of guest with a number of children who were clearly taking over half the hotel. Is it really acceptable to allow children to run around shouting annoying other guests playing hide and seek? Completely spoilt our nice quiet afternoon And please no proper Gin glasses? But I guess you get what you pay for but I did expect better "
"We took my mother down to visit a friend who had moved to Rutland and stayed at this hotel - had two good 'named' rooms. Despite the restrictions around Covid 19, we had a good meal in the conservatory (the restaurant being closed). Not keen on the breakfast as it was a pseudo continental with milk that was out of date. Will have to come back in the summer to take advantage of the location."

"Fantastic staff from the moment we walked through the door ! We felt perfectly safe with covid times ! The lodge is in a fantastic place easy to travel to Peterborough & Stamford a beautiful village . Staff very helpful with everything we asked food directions internet ! Across the other side amazing little village by the river advised by staff ! "
"Although alongside the A1, the sound-proofing is so good that we were not aware of this in our room at the rear of the hotel. The view there was of the fields of the Peterborough Showground, so very rural. The room was just what you would expect from a classic Travelodge. A well-known coffee shop next door, and an excellent village pub/restaurant just 0.5 miles away - accessible on footpaths."
"I stayed for a day for business meeting and it was clean and they had everything you needed. It was reasonable price and the service was amazing.Extremely good value for money and excellent location. The sizing of the bed is perfect and amazing breakfast."
