Top 10 Bunaken Hotels

We were September /Oct. 2023 in all three diving sites of Bastianos. We can recommend Bstianos fully. All facilities are in good to very good condition. Diving with Bastianos was excellently organized at all three sites. We had a fixed diving guide for the duration of the stay at each location. The allocation of max. 4 divings is perfect. Therefore it was possible to respond to our wishes. The submarine world of Sulawesi is very interesting and varied. Unique living beings and varied diving places simply make huge fun. Also the support by Bastianos in problems was excellent. Thank you very much to all teams: organization kitchen and diving bases. Specially to the team in Manado and Gina.

Plusses: comfortable bed, excellent anti-mosquito setup, good air con and ceiling fan, excellent food, nice (though not extremely efficient) staff, attractive grounds, nice pool though hard to get in and out of it, good boats for snorkeling excursions. Minuses: terrible wifi: usually non-functional in the room, when functional is slow. Electricity went off several times and water once. Hot water insufficient. Sink doesn’t drain. ”Ocean view” is a lie - the rooms look out on the garden. Not all-inclusive: you pay extra not only for beer (which is reasonable) but for half the food choices on the menu (not reasonable). Most disappointing of all, the snorkeling is much worse than billed. The “house reef,” touted as ”packed with beautiful corals and a variety of marine life,” is in reality practically nonexistent. At many excursion sites all a snorkeler sees (aside from turtles) is extensively bleached coral and a few tiny fish. The only sites with halfway decent snorkeling are on Siladen and behind Bunaken.

The equipment is old but the room is big. Hygiene was not very satisfactory at the beginning, but it was dealt with quickly after the reaction. very satisfied. The breakfast is very rich and there is a music team playing, happy. The location is very convenient to go out and connect to the mall. It is the city center. The swimming pool in the hotel is also nice.

Breakfast has bread, rice, fish and meat (less variety), fried eggs, noodles, something like soup, juice, milk, coffee, tea. Most of them are slightly spicy, and there is no tomato sauce in the local tomato sauce. I am not used to children (16 years old) to eat okay. No one was eating at the hotel for dinner. We ate two times and it was too long to wait. There is food waste in the trash can of the bedroom, so the ants are recruited. I don't know why their hair dryer is not on the wall. The garbage bin of the bathroom is not placed near the toilet with a similarly cleaned nozzle (there are nozzles in all local toilets that are not accustomed to use). I don't want them to hang up the ”Do Not Disturb” cards every day. If they clean up, they will put a tip under the pillow and they will take it away. The hotel has the same name as the domestic plug, and there is actually no conversion plug! The pillow is uncomfortable and always collapses with our Suwan latex pillow. The lobby staff will not be able to speak Chinese or English, or use translation software to communicate. The hotel does not need a face towel to bring it, the toiletries are also very good. The toothbrush is very hard and the handle is very soft. There is a safe in the refrigerator. Going upstairs to take the elevator requires a room card! We had 2 wonderful weeks staying at New NDC. This place was considered our first home in Manado under the previous management as we had been coming every year since 1997. As this was a diving trip, we had more luggage than normal and they provided more low tables to place the luggage on. The lights in the bathroom and the walk-in closet were dim and it turn out it was faulty and replaced on the same day. The room was big with a king sized bed, the bathroom had bathtub as well as shower cubicle. Service staff was friendly and hospitable. We were treated as family. As a 4 star hotel, it puts out 5 star meals. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves everyday! Looking forward to return here and seeing everyone again. Many thanks for hosting us.!! 😘😘
