It's ok but in terms of reception / room experience feels more like Premier Inn than a 4* hotel (I happen to think Premier Inn do what they do very well). Can't comment on spa or restaurants as didn't use. Very hard to book in advance if you don't the package du jour offering. It was clean, pleasant enough but has some really poor attention to detail in places (like the door closer which stops you opening half the wardrobe without cursing). Don't know how it compares to local alternatives but would be tempted to find out if staying in the area again. It was ok... just not great.

1st visit to Thornton hall - will definitely be returning. The staff are extremely friendly welcoming and helpful - the restaurant service was exceptional- the hotel & spa are spotlessly clean - the setting is beautiful and the food extremely good quality - all of this made for a lovely family birthday stay.

Great Hotel, with lovely rooms ( I tad dated for some tastes). Service was first class, with a lovely meal in the brasserie eaten. Breakfast is high standard with good old table service, the brasserie is a lovely room for meals. Wife had a massage in the spa, which was one of the best she had had!
Car park near Hotel, cases taken to room, staff very friendly and more than happy to help.
Location right in the middle of Chester for close access to shops, Bars and restaurants
Only Negative, Breakfast could have been hotter. And added service charges to bill automatically.
Drinks are very expensive, but to be expected for a 5 start Hotel

Having been fortunate enough to have enjoyed a few previous visits to the Grosvenor for afternoon tea, there was one stand out difference this time...and that was the exceptional service and attention provided by Kimberly and her team. Whilst the afternoon tea was its usual high standard, Kimberly's attention to detail and personal interaction was outstanding and we were made to feel so special its made our day and weekend! Thank you to all the team and we'll see you soon.

When we arrived at the Grosvenor palm court for our Sunday carvery they had messed up our timings on our booking so our table wasn’t ready for us. We had booked for 7pm however they had us down for 7:30pm and the women who greeted us(I think she was the manager) made us feel as though it was our fault, so we showed our email saying it was 7pm when she then eventually apologised. She said to sit on the sofas nearby whilst they tried to sort something out, and she said they would come and take a drinks order, however no one came to take our order and we were sat waiting. Eventually they found a table for us near the carvery which was fine, but a bit out of the atmosphere. When seated, no one came over to us to take a drinks order for a long time or to order any food. When our drinks order was taken and finally arrived, the waiter spilt a whole pint of beer over one of our guests, soaking the chair and his shirt. The waiter was very apologetic and thanked us for making a joke of the situation and promised to take the drinks off the bill. We then had to ask what to do about the roast, and whether to go and help ourselves etc. or to wait for a plate to come to us as no one explained this to us. The food was nice, perhaps the veg a bit cold but overall it was a lovely meal. During this time the service was shocking, no one asked us for anymore drinks, no one asked if we were happy with the meal, no one asked if we wanted the bill etc. when we went up to pay the bill there were no drinks taken off it. We questioned whether to raise this or not but we did. This was where we were told by our waiter that the manager didn’t “see the situation in the same light” and didn’t think it was worthy of any drinks being removed despite a drink being poured all over one of us. Then, when raised with the manager (we think) she was so rude, she came over saying how would they know to take any money off the bill, despite this being a different comment to previously. And she then said “what do you want removing” and “I don’t know what you want us to do” and “I’m not removing everything because only 1 of ten of you got a drink spilt on them!” This was so embarrassing as people around us listened in, and was extremely rude of a manager especially. Overall what they took off didn’t even cover the service charge which we later noticed they had the cheek to keep on the bill!

Not stayed here before but daughter has. Will stay again but look out for special offers. Swimming pool and gardens excellent. Major drawback was continuous piano music on a loop that we could hear in our bedroom and in palm restaurant. Nearby garden centre excellent. Dogs welcome and it was quiet at night

We were a group of 10 girls and were assured of 5 twin rooms when one of us rang hotel but this was not provided on check in The bar lacked any atmosphere and staff lacked any personality My friend accidentally knocked over her expensive glass of wine untouched and was not offered a replacement she had to pay again Not an expected response from a big chain hotel On the positive side housekeeping staff were excellent looking after our needs and providing us with glasses and ice buckets as we were celebrating two milestone birthdays Rooms were comfortable and clean and a decent size

My partner had booked Hotel Indigo as a surprise for my 50th birthday. We arrived on the Friday eve to a warm welcome. Our room followed a race course theme and was tastefully decorated. We dined out on the first eve, exploring the city of Chester but decided to reserve a table on the second night. My sons and their partners joined us on the second night (again a surprise that was well kept)! And we had the most amazing evening of fabulous food. The family sampled the steaks as I enjoyed the chicken and the staff couldn’t do enough to ensure we had everything we needed. Thanks to a very special waitress - who recommended a wedding venue to us too as my partner had proposed earlier in the week on my actual birthday and so it was a double celebration. Our experience of breakfast on both mornings was friendly and staff really wanted to make sure we were well looked after. Hotel Indigo manages to find the balance between relaxed attentiveness and fantastic service in a beautiful setting. Thank you.

Stayed for one night while meeting friends in Chester. The hotel is a short walk from the station and the historic centre of Chester. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was clean, modern and comfortable. Plenty of toiletries and complimentary soft drinks available in the room. The sheets were wonderful to slide into. I had to make a breakfast booking earlier than I would have liked, but I was checking-in early evening and the hotel was busy. Another warm welcome at breakfast with a cold buffet and hot meals to order. The eggs Benedict were delicious and perfectly cooked (soft and runny yolks as I like). Used plates were promptly removed from my table with offers of more tea. All as it should be. Really enjoyed my stay. Hope to be back soon.

Checking in at the main Oddfellows hotel was smooth but it would have helped to have the exact address of the apartment in advance, so we could park more easily. There is one parking space at the apartment but it is a tight entrance!
Apartment 5 was upstairs and very spacious. The lounge/kitchen/diner was well set up and the tea and coffee available was very welcome. Bedrooms and bathrooms were large, comfy and clean (but could do with a few hooks for towels or coats). There is even a laundry room. Decof is quirky and the location is great - just off the main streets. Fabulous place to stay.

Lovely place to stay, rooms perfect with a lovely twist. Staff are pleasant and helpful. Stayed twice recently and will be back again soon. Close to the city centre, parking close and reasonable what more would you need.
