We have been in Helianthal for several years, and we have been in Helianthal for a few days. We have never been disappointed! Since the renovation of the building, we have been completely conquered by the quality of the facilities. I have to acknowledge that there was a booking mixup. No fault of ours and no fault of the parador’s. It meant some changes had to be made and a compromise reached. In everything that was done by the team at the parador, they were professional, polite and determined to solve a problem not of their making. The building is historic, the interior delightful, the views spectacular and the service first class. It’s a magnificent building and the old town and old fishing quarter well worth a visit. Breakfast is in a lovely indoor/ outdoor setting and drinks on the terrace overlooking the bay just perfect. I want to acknowledge the team at the parador for their service and resolution of our problem. You were wonderful and made a stay which could have gone horribly wrong, simply perfect.

We had three nights in one of their large rooms on the top floor with a nice view over rooftops to the bay. The hotel is in a good location for St Jean de Luz. The car parking as others have reported is very tight. I was glad I wasn’t parking the car. The room was spacious but for price we paid was slightly disappointing. For example when I used the lovely free standing bath I had to rinse dust out before I could run the bath. There was dust to the side of the bed. Water is only provided on night one. Breakfast was fine. When we tried to use the spa (we had not been given any information about this) we found the sauna wasn’t working. The pool was on the cool side so we didn’t get to use these facilities. The lift broke twice during our stay including on the morning of our departure. So we had to carry all luggage from the top floor. I’m contrasting this hotel with the other two four star hotels we stayed in for a similar price during this stay in France. Elsewhere we received warm welcomes. For example we were taken to their spa and shown how to use the facilities and we were asked if they could help with restaurants and local places of interest. The service here amounted to giving us our room key, the car park pass and asking if we wanted breakfast. That’s ok however at our other hotels the service it was excellent and I was disappointed with the reception and welcome here. The receptionist on duty as we left did provide us with take away coffees which was a lovely unexpected touch and was welcome.
