Langley Castle. Big thank you, to ALL the Langley Castle team for making our stay so special and magical. I had no idea where I was going until we arrived at the castle. All I knew, is we were staying overnight and dinner will be a fine dining experience, and one of the best we have had over the years. Driving through the forest and following the long winding road, we finally arrived at Langley Castle woodland estate Northumberland . I thought to myself’ as the castle came into view ‘ OMG. As we both walked towards the castle it was utterly breath taking, with the huge fountain sitting so elegant in front of the castle, along with the truly beautiful landscape surroundings . We walked through the huge wooden door of the castle’ and into the grand castle hallway- WOW 😮 just WOW. The castle is steeped in history. Knights stand stall in traditional armour, a beautiful wooden staircase that traveled as far up’ as the eyes could see, along with stunning period furniture, flags and pictures that blended in so well with this 640 year old castle , and 7 feet wide stone walls. The magnificent drawing room, with blazing log fire, traceries and stained glass, together with the oak-panelled cocktail bar, compliment the intimate nature of the Josephine Restaurant. The food served in the restaurant is of the highest order boasting a 2AA Rosette, making the most of fresh, local produce, with fish and game a speciality. Once we were checked in, we were shown to our room. As we made our way to the featured room called the- Derwentwater room, after Earls of Derwentwater (James and Charles Radcliffe) and both Earls were executed at the Tower of London for their parts in the Jacobite Rebellions of 1715 and 1745. A shrine to the brothers lies a short walk . Once again as we entered the room ‘WOW’ 😮 The room was magnificent to say the least, with its beautiful four poster bed, high ceilings, draped beautiful red curtains, fireplace, and stunning period furniture. Author JK Rowling came to stay in this Castle, not once but FOUR times, to gain inspiration for the Harry Potter books. The castle is said to be haunted by a ‘Grey Lady’, reputed to be Maud de Lucy, widow of Sir Thomas, who threw herself out of a window having received news of his death at the Battle of Shrewsbury. Author JK Rowling, wrote into the Harry Potter books moaning myrtle, on the back of the reputed Maud de Lucy - Grey lady. The huge long winding staircases that traveled so high up into the top of the castle, as far as your eyes could see into the darkness , was also written into the books of Harry Potter-the famous staircase of Hogwarts. American Stuart Madnick, Baron of Langley, and his wife (sadly passed away) Own the Northumberland castle . Stuart Madnick, the John Norris Maguire Professor of Information Technology and Engineering Systems, has owned Langley Castle in England since 1985. The castle was purchased for around £70,000, and £1-million was spent ren

Fantastic stay, we stayed in the De Lucy room in the castle. It was an incredible experience. We dined in the restaurant and the food was cooked to perfection, they even surprised me with a happy birthday chocolate surprise! In the morning we had the Northumbrian Breakfast which was scrumptious. The staff couldn’t be more helpful and the tour of the castle topped off a perfect 40th birthday. Highly recommended.

We booked this vey late with the help of the Director Keith for a New Years Eve night away. We rang the day before to try and book the Gala dinner and we were called back on the day of arrival to say there was availability for it which we booked. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted at the desk by two very polite and approachable ladies who checked us in with speed and ease. We asked a few questions about the Gala dinner and they were answered. We got to our room which was a newly refurbished hideaway room in the annex building ( just a 10 second walk to the main building). Entering the room it was bright and looked very appealing. On the bed there was two sets of bundles with dressing gowns and slippers. There was a super king size bed with lots of inviting pillows and cushions with a nice thick quilt. Decor was to a high standard and fittings and fixtures suited the decor of the room. The bathroom was new with a very large walk in shower with raindrop and hand held heads. Very comfortable. Great fluffy towels added to the bathroom. We relaxed watching the large screen t.v while we were getting ready for the night. Arriving at the gala dinner we were shown to our table for the night which had a glass of bubbly and a tray of assorted chocolates for our consumption. We were joined by 6 other guests. The place was full but everyone had plenty of room to move about. There’s a huge crystal chandelier which hangs over the dance floor which is magnificent. We had a choice of meals which we had chosen prior to arrival for our six course night. We had a starter of - Chicken Terrine with sweet chutney and toast ( wife had soup) Then we had Haggis, neeps and tatties. Beef with mashed potatoes, turned vegetables and a wine gravy. We had a chocolate mint cheesecake for dessert. Coffee and tea. There was a live band and a DJ on for entertainment. Band was fantastic. Just before midnight we were presented with another glass of bubbly to see the new year in. We were invited outside at 00:05 for a fireworks display which was a great spectacle. Finished at 0100 but that was enough and a great evening was had with new friends and great food. Slept great and got up next morning for breakfast in the hotels restaurant Prego. Full hot Northumberland breakfast, fruit, cereals and juices were plentiful and what we had was great. The hotel has been refurbished to a high standard and would recommend this to anyone for accommodation and dining. There is also a spa with small pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Upstairs to it there is also a gym but we did not use on this stay unfortunately. I’ve given 5 stars as our stay was made special by the standard of the hotel and its staff which are a credit to it. Thank you Keith and staff for a magnificent stay and we will be back in future. David and Beverley Wyness.

As in the title, a very big thank you for a lovely afternoon. After being on quite a long drive my partner and myself decided to stop off for a bite to eat in the bar of this delightful establishment, as it was 3pm we were worried that there would be a problem with our timing for food but we need not have worried. We were shown to our seats by a very professional lady called Vanessa who made us feel welcome, our drinks order taken, and a menu was in our hands within minutes. The menu was very tempting and Vanessa recommended a few dishes to us, we decided to have a pizza and we were not disappointed they were fabulous !! The service was very attentive but not obtrusive, when finished our main Vanessa offered us the dessert menu and informed us of some desserts not on the menu which we ordered and also offered us more drinks. The young lady who’s name I did not get was very helpful also. The Antler bar is very stylish and warm with a lovely relaxing atmosphere, we could have stayed longer and would have if we didn’t have the car! We will definitely return and try the restaurant which was recommended to us by the lovely team. All in all a lovely time after a long and tiring day !!

We arrived early and our room was ready. The spa facilities were adequate. Only comment is some update needed to the rock effect around the pool. The food in the Clarets jug was fine. Dessert bit disappointing. The staff very friendly and Neville not sure his title but was a perfect gentleman. He transported our luggage to and from our bedroom with no effort. Neville was very polite and friendly. Hope to see him next time we visit.

As regular visitors we always enjoy Slaley Hall. The hotel has a lovely atmosphere, from a warm welcome at Reception to check out. The staff are all very pleasant and helpful. The facilities are good, as are the food and rooms. The location is good, perhaps the only downside is a lack of signage from the road for new visitors.

Booked as a last minute mini honeymoon getaway due to a flight cancellation. We stayed in one of the updated rooms which was nice and comfortable. We couldn’t fault any of the meals either at breakfast or evening meal. The picnic lunch was a little disappointing but overall we were nicely surprised. The leisure facilities are a great addition to the hotel. Of course the hotel could do with some updating but the surrounding areas are beautiful and worth exploring. The staff were very pleasant and helpful to us during our stay. Ask for updated rooms such as 314/5/6 if this is what you would prefer. Overall we were very content with our stay.

Stayed at the George Hotel on day 4 of my West to East walk along Hadrian''s Wall, The rooms are clean and large enough for a short stay, the garden which overlooks the river is an excellent place for a relaxing afternoon drink, I ate dinner at the pub up the road but had breakfast here which was quite good, The staff were all friendly and helpful (special mention to the barman). The location is perfect and I would be happy to stay here again
