Apartment-style, parking behind, you can't go wrong with the navigation. The parking and reception are on the top floor, and the exit on the first floor is the commercial street. Apartment-style hotel, full kitchen equipment, washing machine dryer, and a supermarket nearby, very convenient.

The location is good. Take a small train, go to museums, supermarkets, dragons Chinese restaurants are not far away. Check in is on the sixth floor. There is a kitchen in the house where you can cook. But eating around is quite convenient. We did not cook by ourselves.

It is very convenient to book for guests on Ctrip, but they can only be paid in the store. I called and asked about the email, and I gave the authorization letter to fill in the information and pay after leaving the store. The hotel is the best in Wellington.

Very convenient location. The room got everything I needed. The check in process was quick and the concierge did all the thing I asked.

The location is a 5-minute walk from the Prime Minister's Office. It is on a large slope. Self-driving parking uphill and starting side parking are all technical activities. The hall and room can only be said to be ok, after all, it is not a fashionable hotel, although some desks and sofas have a light luxury style (pay attention to professional habits). Breakfast order + buffet, my evaluation is only passable, fried rice is okay. I met a Taiwanese girl in the service, and she was very enthusiastic. Take the initiative to bring us water, after all, there is no water in the room. Taxi is easy to take, and many restaurants close early on Labor Day. But I learned the local Meituan of Uber eats. Compared with the domestic advanced driving and running, it is not an electric motorcycle. After all, there are fewer people running. Opposite the parking lot is public. The hotel opposite has a swimming pool.

Overall it feels good. The main reason is that the hotel’s service is very good, especially the level of cooking in the hotel’s kitchen is relatively high. However, the hotel facilities have many details that need to be improved. Mainly reflected in the shower room door and the bathroom entrance door will fight, the bathroom does not have a bathtub, etc. Would recommend it to friends who travel to Wellington for business.

The floor height of the room is low and oppressive, the bathroom scale does not work, other supporting facilities are OK! There are special juices for breakfast, great! The food options include porridge but the taste is generally appropriate, other foods are ok!
- Guest User
Good location. The hotel is beautiful, but the elevator and interior are a little old overall. The water pressure in the shower is pretty bad.

Service was ok, and I arrived at 15.45pm only to be told that my room wasn't ready and waited over 35mins for my room key. I also made this booking online which included breakfast and paid abit extra when I asked staff about this when I checked in they said yes you can get your breakfast by restaurant and the next morning I wanted to double check again with staff only to be told that nope breakfast wasn't included in my booking but my receipt said that it was so no breakfast for me I had brought my breakfast elsewhere. I'm highly likely not going to go back

Located a few hundred meters from the heart of everything this hotel represents great value for money. The beds are incredibly comfy and the room looked really fresh, as though it may have been recently refurbed. We booked a Harbour View room which was lovely. Staff were great from start to finish. Only complaint was the air con was difficult to operate and quite loud, but otherwise we had a great stay and would recommend.

Couldn't ask for a better location. An elevator from the lobby to Lampton Quay made it so easy for shopping. Staff shortages due to covid were still evident but any staff we did have contact with were friendly and helpful. The staff member servicing the rooms asked if we wanted our rooms serviced but we said no as there is no need when it's only a two night stay. The cafe and bar had restricted hours again due to staff shortages. However the buffet breakfast was very good.

Had we known to inquire about the water pressure in our bathroom when we booked, would have saved a very disappointing experience. The expectation that the shower pressure and water flow would be enough to have even the most basic of washes should be the bare minimum when paying a premium price for one of the better rooms in the hotel, I would expect. Staff shortages are no excuse for no water, but the staff that were there were very courtious and obliging. This is the second stay at the James Cook and will be our last for now. Disappointed

The bed was great - really comfortable. The heat pump was really annoying, some instructions would have been helpful and when I first texts sent to the cell phone provided were unanswered. When I tried the landline it transpired that the wrong cell number was listed. The heat pump continued to be problematic throughout the stay. With 4 of us staying there was not sufficient seating in the lounge> There was plenty of room in the lounge for a couple of chairs as well, so this was less than ideal.

The Hotel we stayed at exceeded our expectations. What I liked about the hotel was that it was super clean, spacious veranda, working jacuzzi, accessible drinking water, mini fridge. I was especially pleased with the location as everything we needed was in walking distance! I’ll for sure come back again!

We didn't get what we had booked. Wanted 2 rooms with 2 single beds in each, next to each other. Our rooms were on separate floors, one had a king and a single trundle bed in it. We had sent emails prior requesting this, had confirmations back ensuring our request was met, only to be told on arrival, after we had paid, that one room had been moved to another floor! Receptionist didn't seem to care that we were very disappointed. When we went to second (upgraded) room, the bathroom door had come off it's roller making it hard to open or shut, and came right off at one point, dangerous as was heavy solid glass. Asked reception to have it fixed next day, got back that night to find it hadn't, asked again following morning, was fixed next day.

A great unpretentious but quality inner-city hotel. Great location for visiting TSB Stadium, TePapa etc Helpful friendly staff. Good quality bathroom. Perfect King bed. Unbeatable buffet breakfast. City view rooms at back of hotel are very quiet. We had one problem with missing towels on returning to room after 11.00pm and this was swiftly sorted out by friendly reception staff. Airport bus stops very close.

Reviews From Real Travelers
I have just had a one night stay at this hotel and splurged on a Junior Suite which was well worth it. The room was beautiful...better than the photos suggested which is really unusual!! Due to current low staffing levels (the bane of hospitality everywhere atm) they currently don't offer valet parking and this was the low-light of the stay. Obviously I completely understand the staffing issues but.... On arrival (at approx 10.30pm due to a 4+ hour ferry delay) I was dismayed to find the doors locked but staff were available to let me in. I unloaded and my bags were taken to my room and I had to park the car myself. Other than being really tired and not up for negotiating Wellington CBD's notorious one way system to get to the car-park, this was fine and not usually something I would gripe about. The car-park is actually directly attached to the hotel which is perfect, but I had to drive around the block in a counter-intuitive manner to get to the car-park. I knowingly drove the wrong way down a 1-way St to make my life easier as it was okay to do it at that time of night with deserted streets. An hour or so later I called for room service (several times) and no-one answered the phone on any occasion. I knew they were short-staffed so no problem, I wandered down to reception to order a meal. I had the chicken laksa which was nice. The midday check out was wonderful and check-out was seamless. But I had a major issue getting out of the car-park and I'm not sure if this is my fault or the Hiltons fault. On arrival I was given an information sheet regarding the parking and this included the exit code. I committed this to memory and off I went. However, on entering the code at the car-park exit point the barrier did not rise. Traffic built up behind me rapidly and my blood pressure and stress levels ramped up accordingly. I had the correct code and on subsequent attempts to get out, tried the code followed by the # key and also tried the code followed by the tick/green light key but no dice. I tried calling reception but got no answer and was just about in tears when a kind man (about 5 cars back on a narrow exit point in a typical inner city parking building) walked down and used his card to let me out. Thank god for him whoever he was. This was really stressful as I had been on the road for 2 weeks and was about to embark on the last leg of my journey and just didn't need the stress. I was particularly annoyed they did not answer the phone when I called. I called a 2nd time but by the time I got some-one on the phone the good samaritan had let me out. I definitely had the correct code to exit the car-park but was not aware I needed to press the tick/green key afterwards (although...I did try this and it didn't work... I may have entered this final step too late because I didn't know it was needed). I can't recall seeing this instruction on the info sheet I was given. Hence...it may have been my fault...or not?? Either

We've stayed at the Doubletree a number of times over the years, but this time the hotel staff seem to have lost their touch and I accept the things, that irritated are first-world problems, but this is a hotel that positions itself as four or five-star and $249 per night if an Honors member. Our reservation process had a couple of teething problems around pricing which we've never experienced before as Honors members. In fairness, they were sorted out with an apology, but it was surprising they actually occurred based on the number of times we've stayed and my Honors number was obviously in the 'system'. Like a job interview, it's the first 15 seconds that count in terms of perception at the front desk - it can either make or break your stay. The receptionist on the desk on Friday afternoon left much to be desired in terms of customer experience. OK, we accept that the official check-in time is 1500, but to be told the room wasn't ready that's fine, but we'll give you a call when it is - well hullo, no call, no sorry - essentially it's your problem. Then checkin, given one key for two people - grudgingly given another when asked. in a very off-handed way. If the receptionist doesn't like being in a front-of-house role she should perhaps find another role where there's no interaction with guests. The experience at the front desk detracted from the lovely gift of some pastries and card from the hotel for my wife's birthday weekend - essentially undoing the goodwill. The cleaning I think needs a rethink - again if you leave a letter noting there's a shortage of housekeeping/cleaning and suggesting a lite touch approach to cleaning rooms, perhaps a nice gesture would be a voucher for a coffee or drink at the bar for not having the room cleaned for three nights as is being done in hotels overseas. On a more positive note, this has to be Wellington's go-to hotel in terms of location within the CBD.
