This is an excellent, relaxing hotel in an unrivalled position high above the clouds in tea country. The staff, led by Charmara, were excellent and could not have been more helpful or charming. The food is excellent, plentiful and we loved eating on the terrace whilst nesting swallows flew overhead to their young. High tea was served to us on the lawn by the swimming pool. The surrounding countryside is spectacular and with tea plantations rising up to nearly 2,000 metres. A tuktuk ride up to Sir Thomas Lipton's Seat at 1,954 metres is highly recommended, with a visit to a tea factory on the way back to the hotel. The hotel has beautiful gardens, perfect for a wander.

Gorgeous house and garden, superbly restored. Amazingly attentive service; nothing was too much trouble. Absolutely everyone was friendly, cheerful and helpful. We stayed for 3 nights on an all inclusive basis; amazed to discover this also included a laundry service. It was refreshing for all the inclusions to be proactively flagged up so we were aware of them. Highly recommended.

Really gorgeous stay that exceeded all expectations. Hard to put into words how relaxing this place is (the gardens, views, sounds of the wildlife, absolutely serene). We stayed in the James Taylor suite which was stunning - very large, roll top bath etc. The service at Thotalagala makes the experience so special - thank you Chamara and Ishan! Every detail was carefully thought out, down to hot water bottles in bed/tea brought to your room at night, freshly made cocktails, activity recommendations etc. I also need to mention the food - amazing. Really excellent selection and top restaurant quality. I cannot recommend this place enough & really hope to visit again.

The ultimate five star experience. Beautiful planters bungalow providing immaculate service to meet your every need. Staff discreetly attentive at all times. Great location for a memorable trip up to Lipton’s seat. Stunning location with amazing views.

An exceptional all-inclusive boutique hotel (7 rooms), Magnificent location with stunning views with infinity pool. Service was great but the food was off the charts. The chef Danushka made everything requested and it was all 5 star. I would recommend the hotel just for the food and decent wines were included. The free activities were enjoyable - trip to Lipton’s seat and 4 km hike were fun to do.

A house with history, positive energy with an amazing view. Friendly, extremely willing, always smiling staff. Extraordinary services and cuisine. We really recommend a stay here to anyone visiting Sri Lanka. We will definitely be back.

What a wonderful place! This was our absolute favorite place on our tour of Sri Lanka. The views were fantastic, the food excellent and the staff were so nice and helpful. The historic setting and atmosphere was beautifully emphasized by the decor in the rooms on the bookshelves, paintings and well put details, like an old typewriter or a magnifying glass. Our suite was also luxurious and spacious and split in two, so our 5 year old had his own room. One of the nights of our stay, we were the only guests and the staff moved the dining table into the living room, so we could enjoy our delicious dinner in front of the fireplace. Very cozy. When we were getting ready to turn in and the temperature dropped a little, a hot water bottle was place under the blankets which was so great. Thotalagala is strongly recommended to everyone who visits the region and we will definitely return, when we get back to Sri Lanka some other time.

A truly majestic setting in the high tea country near Haputhale The wonderful accommodation is ideally suited to its surroundings and served by a highly skilled friendly team for whom nothing is too much trouble. A rare combination of very high service quality and unintrusive presence. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. A memorable experience.
