Our stay at Ballynahinch Castle in late-April was a highlight of our Ireland trip. The grounds were spectacular and the hotel staff provided service to match! Claire, upon check-in was so efficient and warm, we felt like we were being welcomed home. Kevin in the pub took amazing care of my nut allergy, and made our pub experience special—the food and cocktails were delicious! We are definitely coming back — hopefully soon!

Our visit was part of a 10 day holiday where we have largely been staying in castle hotels. While Ballynhinch had one of the most beautiful settings, pleasant rooms and a good restaurant it was at a price point of many of the 5 star hotels we stayed at but failed to deliver a similar experience. No offer of help to carry our bags to the upstairs room, no turn down service, no advice about activities on arrival. Other 4 star hotels we have visited did not provide such services but they were priced at about two thirds of the price of Ballynhinch. We understand that they are not 5 star but can’t really see anything to justify the difference in price point. The issue that made me feel the most ripped off was being charged 20 plus euros for water at dinner. When we asked for water we imagined both still and sparkling would be free as that had been our experience in every hotel we visited. We would have been happy with tap water if we had known a charge was incurred for bottled water. We had lunched at Ashford Castle the same day and had not been charged for the same brand of bottled water. At 90 euros a head for dinner surely the water should be complementary

We stayed for 2 nights in April 2024 with my 10 year old daughter. I actually planned my entire itinerary around those two nights because we had heard such great things about Ballyhanich. It was well worth it and I cannot wait to go back! It is such a peaceful setting but enough activities around to keep us occupied. We used the complementary bikes to ride around the expansive estate and bike trails, took the many walks, enjoyed feeding the horses and pigs, and also explored Clifden and Connemarra National Park which is closeby. The room was quiet and overlooked the river- extremely comfortable bed and large bathroom with luxurious large bathtub and shower. The breakfast is unbelievably delicious, and we ate in the pub both nights.

Stopped off adhoc for food as a party of four, having climbed Diamond Hill and visiting the area, Saturday 20th April, we were dressed in outdoor gear, we were not made to feel very welcome by one waiter in particular, really quite rude and pretentious. The food was tasty, the restaurant was nice, the other young waiter was polite but the experience would put me off returning for food or considering a stay at the hotel.

Ballynahinch is an oasis of beauty and tranquility in the ruggedness of Connemara. The setting by the river, accessible by well laid out paths and a wonderful cycleway, is stunning. The staff are exceptionally warm and helpful - especially Brid, Killian and Leo. The food is exquisite. We just loved are all too brief a stay but have now found our favourite place to retreat and be spoiled.

This was simply a memorable visit, and just the perfect place. Visited with friends, and we were delighted with the beauty of the grounds, the amazing architecture of the building, and the outstanding service by everyone at the hotel. Every detail is considered, and accounted for in a way that makes it truly special. The food was delicious, and I can’t stop thinking about the wonderful breakfast set up. Drinking at the pub made me feel like I was experiencing history. There is so much to do, and everyone wants to truly make your stay unforgettable

Highly recommend this hotel! Every single employee we came in contact with was extremely kind and accommodating. It is apparent that have a top notch experience is important. Our room was comfortable and nicely appointed. We ate at the pub and the restaurant. Absolutely do not miss dining in the restaurant when you visit. The food was exquisite. The breakfast is also out of this world. There is a buffet with anything you could ask for, as well as a menu with numerous offerings. We opted to do the fire pit experience. They have blankets, cocoa and marshmallows set up at the fire located in the walled garden. We relaxed by the fire and enjoyed the shooting stars. Do not miss hiking around the grounds. Beautiful strolls by the river, in the woods and in the gardens.

This unique hotel has beautiful gardens, kilometres of walking trails, and many activities. We had to ask for a room change as the room we were initially checked into did not match the description on the website. Also, the website mentions that the rooms have Bluetooth radios, which we also had to ask for. For the prices charged, the little things need to be on point, and guests shouldn't have to ask for the amenities and room features that are advertised.
